I've been thinking of this a lot lately, and it's an attraction I just need to share with someone. If I were a college student, I might use it for the ImagiNations contest, but as I am not, I'll share it here. :)

I give you Fantasia: Legacy.

This is a show designed for Disney's Hollywood Studios. There are two possible locations. It could reside inside the current home of one of the many Sunset Boulevard that has the exterior of The Carthay Theater. It could also replace Voyage of the Little Mermaid. I like the former idea because I think Sunset needs more attractions than shops, but either way, this show could fit in either.

The show concept:
A theatrical experience for guests to 35 minute journey into the world of Walt Disney's dream of an ever-changing Fantasia.

For this description, let's imagine TDO approved the money to tear out the insides of the Carthay store and place a moderate attraction inside.

Guests enter though the doors of the theater and wander though the queue, themed to the the empty but pristine lobby of the Carthay Theater. Movie posters to Walt Disney's early shorts and films adorn the wall, and a closed concession stand still smells of fresh popcorn. Guests are ushered down a hallway towards doors. Behind these doors is a theater, but not just any theater.

This show building houses a slightly smaller scale version of the Carousel of Progress rotating theater. Each theater holds 200 guests. Three full shows run at all times, while the fourth theater is for loading and unloading and includes a short pre-show.

Guests load into the theater and the curtains open to reveal an orchestra warming up. A celebrity (to be determined at the time of the attractions creation) enters and welcomes guests to the show. He is then joined by an in-theater Animatronic figure of Mickey Mouse. Mickey and the host interact and tell the guests a little bit about the history behind Fantasia, showing a bit of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice", and talking about how Disney wanted it to be an ever changing experience. The host explains that today, the guests will be able to be a part of that dream and experience Fantasia like never before.

The orchestra strikes up as the theater rotates. In the first theater we are treated to a segment from the original Fantasia, introduced by the celebrity host and Mickey. A computer system randomizes the selection for each show, so that each experience is different. Each "show scene" is ten minutes long, so some of the scenes will be abbridged versions.

After a brief word from the hosts, the theater rotates again, the orchestra playing music from the previous segment.

Theater 2 holds a segment from Fantasia 2000, again randomized for a different experience. Mickey and the host intro the segment as before, and when it's over, the theater rotates again, again played out to music from the segment.

Theater 3 is where things get interesting. The host and Mickey explain that guests are about to experience the true realization of Walt's dream for Fantasia and will be shown an original, exclusive to the attraction, Fantasia segment from Walt Disney Feature Animation. This film would change out after a select period at the park (between 6 months to a year)

After the final segment ends, the theater rotates back to the load/unload area and the host and Mickey (now donning his famous hat) thank the guests and wish them a magical day at the parks. Mickey waves his hands towards the theater doors and they swing open and guests are ushered out into the adjacent gift shop on Sunset.

This attraction wouldn't be a door-busting E-Ticket attraction, but would finally bring Walt's idea of an ever changing Fantasia to life. Each experience in the attraction would be different, allowing for guests to come back and see different versions of the show.

The only thing that would change about this if it were set in the current location of Voyage is the theming of the queue, but I imagine it could still be themed to a movie theater, just not a specific one.

So, what do you think? Would you ride Fantasia: Legacy? What would you differently? I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

Another location option: replace Sound Dangerous with Drew Carrey, since it's never open anymore anyway.

This show could also work as a singular theater, with each segment playing out in it's full glory. Each Segment would be random, so to still have a unique show each time. The only difference is instead of a show starting every ten mins, it would be more staggered, shows starting every hour instead. I imagine this kind of theater would be able to sit 900 guests, maybe less.
