Were doing the family road trip from Omaha Nebraska to WDW. Worried about weather more then whinny kids but can't wait just 29 Days till our trip. Any body else drove long distance to the parks. Just can't afford to fly.
We usually do the drive from Illinois (across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, Mo) w/o an over night stop. 16 - 18 hours depending on weather, traffic, etc., You can get an inexpensive DVD player/monitor from the big box stores. car bingo, license plate game, books and stories on CD's, etc., depending on the ages of your children.
We have also done the trip to Orange County California...on the way there we did it w/no stop overs...about killed me anyway...so on the way home we stopped one night. But that was a LONG trip.
Last year we did a super crazy (or stupid thing). We spent all day Friday at Six Flags in 100+ heat in St. Louis with my husbands family. Home at 10PM, packed up. Early Sat. morning finished packing the van, then went to my husband's family reunion until 6 PM.....then drove straight through to WDW. Arrived nice and tired on Sat...except the kids the slept A LOT on the way down. This year we will NOT be doing that again. lol
We have made the drive from Ontario to Orlando almost every year. I enjoy the drive as it allows me to unwind from work and be in vacation mode when I get there.
