Family cancelling due to positive COVID

Not really needing any advice just sad and need people who understand my Disney love to know how sad it is. We were planning a WDW for Jan. 4th-Jan. 8th with my sister and my nephew for their first time. We have never had a vacation together and its been awhile since we spent time together. Today, my sister's husband tested positive for COVID and they are planning to cancel their trip to be safe (which is responsible and logical). But I am so sad that our plans fell through. I am happy everyone seems okay and blessed it wasn't worse. I know I am blessed my family is still going. But I am sad I won't actually get to go with my sister or nephew who have never gone and I will most likely miss their first time when they go later. So many emotions.

Had to cancel a WDW trip literally hours before I was supposed to get on the plane because a big bad hurricane was hitting FL as I was supposed to be flying in! Was so sad, but knew it was ultimately for the best/safest. But was so bummed as I'd been planning that trip at that point for like two years and had all my reservations and fastpasses set to go. :(

Hope your family member gets better soon!

Its sad when some members don't get to go.
But things happen.
A few years ago the whole family drove down and the day we were supposed to go to EPCOT only part of us went because my one niece was sick and went to urgent care and had Scarlet fever.
After 24 hours on antibiotics she was no longer contagious and we all went to the parks together but she didn't do much. Luckily she was small enough that she was in a stroller most of the day anyways. We weren't going to make her walk anywhere. But all of our pics were of her bundled up with bright red chipmunk cheeks.

Right now its not that surprising that some would need to cancel.
I'd enjoy yourself and then plan the big trip with everyone either late 2021 or maybe January 2022?

Hope your brother in law comes through it all right and hope your sister and the rest of the family can avoid it. At least it showed up before the trip and not show up on the temp checks at the parks once youd arrived or in the middle of the trip. We have a friend who recently was hospitalized and just was discharged on Christmas Eve. Since they are missing out, you can have fun picking up Disney buttons, maps, low cost souvenirs or other things they might like as a consolation. Maybe a future family trip with you all together will be able to happen sooner than later.

A positive test does not mean he will get sick. Best wishes.

We had to cancel a family trip a day before a trip when someone was hospitalized. It was a great disappointment, but my kids were sooo mature. We were to meet up with family friends. A friend dropped off Mickey waffles, Mickey ice cream bars, disney gift card and a few thoughtful disney gifts. Something to consider if you live close.
