Extra night planning

Alright, I've read the guidebooks and heard you get a good deal with an extra night and call up the hotel you're staying at the night before your check out day and say "You know, we are having such a great time, we want to stay one more night. What kind of deal can you give us?"
Is this a good tactic, or should you just extend your reservation prior to arriving?
Thanks a million! :) :hammer:

I am a firm believer in never leaving anything to chance. A lot of it depends on when you are going and what kind of rate you already have. Chances are you will not be able to beat your existing rate once you are already there. I shop the rates at mousesavers.com, get the best deal I can and then book the total number of days I need.

37 Days, 19 Hours, 50 Minutes and 16 Seconds!

What guidebook did you read this in? It sounds awfully risky to me. What happens if they don't have any availability? I'm with Chris on this one. Make sure you've got all contingencies covered before you go!

I've never heard of this. We were offered what was called a "stampead (sp) day". We were in the WL and it wasn't very busy (July 2001). We were offered the next night at 1/2 price. Tickets were not included.
