Park hours are based on forecasted guest attendance. If guest attendance surpasses a certain threshold above the forecast the Parks Duty manager will extend hours.
Yes I’ve experienced that a couple of times. But only opening “select attractions”? That’s a new one no?

Several months ago, maybe even a year now, I was at MK and they extended the hours fairly last minute another 2 hours or so. I think it's something they just decide based on attendance, availability of transportation etc. I felt bad for the CM's though that were now working another 2+ hours than expected.

Why on Earth is Magic Kingdom scheduled to close at 8 p.m.? I know this is the "slow" season (not that such a thing really exists anymore), but 8 p.m.? C'mon.
I can tell ya it's a welcome relief for the CM's. The mandatory OT gets a little ridiculous. I've seen CM's sleeping in their cars because going home takes up time. What many guest don't take into account is besides the holidays we have a lot of other events going on like the marathon this past weekend. Marathons are scheduled to run around 5am so they can open the roads back up before the parks open. All the departments are involved one way or another, so it becomes a 24/7 operation. Hence the OT if you are short handed. Some of my security friends were working 16 hour shifts. That only gives you 8 hrs. to go home shower, eat, sleep (a little) and drive back . Early closing is a sigh of relief, trust me. I've said this before many things have to happen behind the scenes to make the Magic seamless. And it's discouraging to a CM to put in the effort only to get treated badly by guest. So we suck it up, and keep going.

TWDC could you know not be cheap and just hire more CMs and stop relying on predictive staffing like it's magic.....you know overstaff and schedule better and permanently extend hours so it's all planned far in advance instead of this labour to guest ratio bean counting. I mean the place only prints money like the federal reserve I know my opinion is just ludacris.

That's easier said than done. They are constantly hiring, but no one can control people quitting. So if a spike in activity happens at a low in staff you have the perfect storm. How do you fix it fast? OT

The tough part there is letting family know your working late. CM's are not allowed to use their phones on stage so that can be tricky.

The MK was supposed to close at 8p tonight. They just made an announcement that select attractions were remaining open till 9p to ease congestion on the transportation services.
Closing MK right after HEA is going to overload the transportation system. Many have complained for months about the early closing. I even called Disney to lodge my complaint and they were professional and courteous. They indicated there were many complaints about the early closing hours especially during June, July, and August. Parks are busting at the seams and Disney is making tons of money-hire some more CM and give the customers additional hours of enjoying the parks.

Parks are wall to wall with crowds and all that money they are suppposedly making on Star Wars (revenue from last Star Wars big disappointment and merchandise sales big big disappointment) seems the customers visiting the parks would be treated as valued customers. Doesn't appear to be happening. Earlier and earlier closing of parks is going to become a big problem for DIsney is the policies are not changed.

I don't even know where to begin with all the inaccuracies stated in this post.
