Hi everyone! This year my family and I will be taking our first trip to the magical Walt Disney World! I have been hearing about how the parks offer Extra Magic Hours where you can stay at the park later than usual. How does this work? Also, do you have to be staying on site or are you able to participate in this if you stay off site? Thank You for all of your help! :)

Onsite Disney Resort guests only. Find a calendar to see relevant dates and times for each park. During Early morning magic hours just turn up at the park at the early time and show your resort ID (Key to the World card) and they will let you in. If it is late magic hours then show your KttW Card to a cast member and they will give you a wristband to prove you are a guest and are entitled to be there after hours.

You have to be staying on site to take advantage of this. Check with the calendar for when the EMH are. You use your resort card (key to the world) for entrance into the park and to go on rides during the EMH.

EMH are the best... evening are better than morning.. Morning tends to just fill up the park so we will go somewhere else... But if you can stay up late, the last part of a EMH evening is great!! :)

They do not do the wristbands anymore except for specially ticketed events (MVMCP, MNSSHP, etc.). To get on any of the rides for PM EMH you will have to show your KTTW card when you get on a ride.

No cheaters either. ;) I was happy to see several non resort guests try to make their way onto rides during the PM EMH's and the vigilant CM's turned them away... after politely informing them of the Disney policy for EMH's

They have gotten really good about weeding out the non-resort guest.

You must be a resort guest and as others have said just have your room key and you will be all set. We have had more success with the evening hours, if you go for early morning I would leave by lunch and hop to another park as they tend to attract more people to the park with early hours.

I love the morning Extra Magic Hour, particularly for huge-line attractions like Toy Story Midway Mania, Soarin', etc. BUT..... You absolutely have to be at the park entrance about 15 minutes (or more) before rope-drop, or it defeats the purpose. You can actually ride TTMM twice within a half-hour if you're among the first people in the park! If you're really ambitious, hit two attractions in one park using Extra Magic Hour, and quickly head over to 9:00 regular opening in another. It works great if you can pull it off (and if you time the bus right!).

I always wondered how they enforced that!

Just make sure to check the calendar before you go to see which parks offer extra magic hours on which days. In the morning, it might open an hour early. At night, it might stay open 2-3 hours extra. Not every attraction stays open, but most all of the popular ones do. Like everyone said, just have your keys to the kingdom card on you and you'll be all set. Just as a side note, The Hilton by Downtown Disney is the only nonDisney resort in which you can participate in extra magic hour.
