Hey Everyone! Just got back from our trip to WDW last night! We arrived last Monday night, July 15 and left yesterday, Sunday, July 21. WHAT A TRIP!!!! It was incredible! 5 days and what days they were. This post is gonna be kinda long and very detailed-just warning you now before you start reading.
Our first night- July 15th:
Checked into the Caribbean Beach Resort at about 6:15 PM. The customs house was pretty neat- that time when you check in is the best cuz its actually hitting you that you’re there. The rooms are pretty spacious! Nice appearance to them-very colorful. We then had to rush to Downtown Disney to catch a 9:00 performance of La Nouba. Ate a QUICK dinner at the McD’s- boy was that crowded!!!!! We then made our trek to Westside. The Cirque building is mighty impressive and WHAT A SHOW!!! If you haven’t seen it- GO SEE IT! Its worth the money. Talk about art and poetry in motion. Words cannot begin to describe! Again GO SEE IT next time you’re there! Got back to the resort at about 11:30. Had the TV on the WDW tour channel the whole time. LOVE that Zip-ah-dee-doo-dah Tip for the Day!
Day 1 July 16th - Magic Kingdom:
What a beautiful morning! Ate at the Food Court and got to MK right as they played Zip-ah-dee-doo-dah and Mickey and Minnie welcomed you around 9-ish. The sun was shining, Main Street sparkled, and there was barely a cloud in the sky. Castle looked fantastic as usual-never ceases to amaze. Went through and decided to clear the Fantasyland attractions out of the way and had no wait on Snow White, Peter Pan, Small World, or Pooh. Rode Splash Mtn, Haunted Mansion, Hall of Presidents, and Country Bears before Lunch at Columbia Harbor House. We ate over the entrance to Liberty Square from Fantasyland. Saw Snow White and Aurora at the old Fantasyland Skyway station from our table. After lunch we did Swiss Family Robinson Tree House and hit Main Street for some shopping before the Share a Dream Come True Parade. Sat right in front of the Castle for that. The parade was shorter than I thought it would be, but the floats and Music was fantastic. We were kinda in a bad spot though cuz it was right behind a stopping zone, so we saw some action when it stopped- but from the back. For anyone’s future reference- sit just by the Tomorrowland entrance in the hub area to get the most of the float action. My heart goes out to the performers of this parade- especially the poor guys in the pants, pulled up socks and sweater vests. Yuck it must have been horrible. But they did a great job! After that, we rode Alien Encounter and Carousel of Progress- Crowds were substantial, but not heavy. Returned to the resort to “freshen up” and when we got back we did the “Discover” Kiosks at the Expo Hall, rode Pirates, and got a pineapple Dole Whip in Adventureland on the way to dinner at Cosmic Rays. Boy were they good! After dinner, we took a spin on TTA and they had the Tom Morrow spiel!!! We then took our spot for SpectroMagic and it didn’t disappoint! WHAT A PARADE! Better than MSEP-although it will always be special too me, SpectroMagic was FANTASTIC. The music and floats were incredible! And Jimminy Cricket was a nice touch. Really moving ending with the final floats turning white! WOW! Caught Fantasy in the Sky-no Tink though. Used a different opening spiel cuz of this too. Oh well.
Day 2- July 17th- Animal Kingdom/ MGM:
Our worst day down there for many reasons. First off- woke up in the middle of the night and found no AC on, and my alarm clock was off as well as the smoke alarm light, and all the lights outside my door. Power didn’t come on for about half an hour. At least it was back on though. Got up- had a message on my phone, but couldn’t retrieve it for some reason. Went to breakfast and then waited for bus to Epcot. Waited for almost 25 minutes when I finally approached the CM with a clipboard and asked if the buses to Epcot were running. She then told me it was closed today and didn’t give a reason. I was SO MAD!!! We had to go back to the room to change our meal reservations to the next day. Later found out the fire and how it had caused all the Epcot Resorts as well as the park to go out- of course the resorts were first priority. After cooling down and discovering the message that I would’ve retrieved said Epcot was closed we got a late start and headed to Animal Kingdom. HOT HOT HOT! Heat index that day was around 110. Only got to Safari and the Maharajah Jungle Trek before lunch and then back to the resort. It was just TOO hot to be out. So after cooling off for about 2 hours. We went back to AK to catch Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade. Awesome parade, the animal puppets and music were SO MUCH FUN! GO see this parade!!! Caught It’s Tough to be a Bug, and then the Tarzan Rocks show before heading out to dinner at MGM. Got to MGM and saw the hat. Its pretty impressive but needs to be moved after the Celebration- even though it won’t be. Saw One Man’s Dream and was VERY moved. A must see for any true Disney fan. Had diner at Mama Melrose’s. Wasn’t too impressed-it’s just not my type of food. California based, a little too fancy, but that’s just me. After, we caught Muppet Vision 3-D. Still a great show. Then headed to join the throngs of crowds waiting for Fantasmic and sat in a pretty decent section. Couldn’t tell if we were in Pocahontas or Maleficent. Mickey didn’t shoot fireworks with his hands, and he couldn’t seem to get the sword to shoot at the end either. Looked like it was supposed to- he kept hitting it. Oh well! GREAT SHOW as usual. So even though the day was a little rough, we ended it on a good note.
Day 3- July 18th – Epcot:
Finally got to Epcot today! The park looked great! Sunny and no clouds in the sky! If you saw a teenage kid wearing a Gray t-shirt that had EPCOT in old lettering on the front, and a bunch of Epcot stuff on the back in black- It was ME! We got there before it opened and joined the crowds again as we all headed to Test Track. Got a FP and then headed to The Land and rode Living with the Land. Hadn’t ridden in YEARS! It was really cool! Loved all the scenes. Went in Mousegear and Innoventions and then it was time for our FP. Walked right on Test Track! No problems. Then headed to Universe of Energy and sat in front car. Then we made it over to Figment at the Imagination Institute. The ride was DEFINITELY better than 2000’s but not even near the original! Good to see Figment again! We then made our way to Living Seas. Hadn’t done in years as well. This needs some major work. Not much to do there except look in the tank, which was REALLY great, but with the omnimover section of the attraction out, the manatees gone, there’s nothing much there. Kind of a disappointment. We then had reservations for Alfredo’s in Italy so we made our way over there. Our best meal of the whole trip. I’m a big Pasta fan and the Alfredo was DELICIOUS! Best I’ve ever tasted! After lunch we toured the rest of World Showcase and caught American Adventure. I always cry during that show. Its so great Made our way around the promenade and ended up at Mexico for dinner, not before riding River of Time. (La la la la la la la la!) The food was surprisingly good. Again a little fancy for me, but my shrimp pasta in tomato sauce was very good. It rained while we were inside, and they had cancelled the first performance of Tapestry. But when we were done, the sun was out and shinning and we picked a spot in Norway for both the parade and RoE. Tapestry of Dreams was good, but nothing near Tapestry of Nations. Glad to see they didn’t change the music too much. The Dream seekers were really Cheesy and it was nice how they tried to keep some of the original spiels in the parade, but the way they were saying it was just….. Anyway, they were cheesy and they looked cheesy. The Dreamcatcher float was pretty good, but other than that, not very impressed. AS always though, GREAT to see those fantastic puppets and drums again. The performers were REALLY energetic! Major props to the TOD performers! The little bells and stuff they added were kinda annoying though. My pins flashed during the end of the parade. Pretty neat touch. After that, we caught RoE. Still an amazing, moving, fantastic show. Everything’s still the same except when the pavilions sparkle, they sparkle colors instead of just white. The seawall launchers all worked and still seemed impressive. The finale fireworks were colored at the end and not as impressive as the gold and white used during the Millennium. The tower in Italy didn’t light up as well as Canada becuz they were both being refurbed still. Canada’s laser worked though. Still and incredible show.
Day 4- July 19th – MGM/ E-Ride Night:
Woke up a little late today, the wake-up calls, for the moment are Stitch telling you to get up and see him at MGM instead of Mickey. Ate at the park this morning at Starring Roles Bakery. Got there before park opened again. Very sunny but a bit hazy. After breakfast, we rode the Great Movie Ride. The popcorn smellers in the beginning weren’t working. We got “abducted” in Gangster Alley and the fire explosion in the Western Section was not working. Alien was not as scary, couldn’t tell if the moving corpses in the Egyptian section were new or not. Then got FP for Rockin’ Roller Coaster and opted for the Animation tour. The classic movies during the tour got me cryin again. Rode Rockin’ Roller Coaster, then caught Beauty and the Beast. No dove release cuz of hawks in the area or something- apparently resort-wide. That’s a shame, cuz its such a nice touch. The show was pretty good, although the energy in the principle’s performance was down (That’s just me cuz I’m into theater so much). Shopped a bit on Sunset then got FP for Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Finished up at One Man’s Dream and then caught the mermaid show. STILL a very good show. Well done- especially the water and lasers!!! Brilliant effect! Ate at the ABC Commissary and had an excellent Chocolate Crème Pie. Did Backlot tour, which is not what it used to be. New water tank arrangement though, for me, with the Pearl Harbor stuff. Only two of the water tanks on Catastrophe Canyon were working-still enough though. After we had to go to MK to exchange our tickets for Wristbands for that night’s E-ride Night. Rode Monorail Yellow and quickly changed tickets. Went back to resort to freshen up before returning to dinner at the Brown Derby in MGM. Tried to catch the parade, but it was cancelled due to encroaching weather. It then started to sprinkle and became overcast. EXCELLENT dinner thought, I had the salmon and it was the best salmon I’d ever tasted. Had the white chocolate cheesecake with the white chocolate sorcerer’s hat and ears on it for dessert. I’ll post a pic when I get them back. Tried to head to MK BEFORE it closed so we didn’t have to fight upstream, but a group of people on our bus detained us for about 20 mins. They got on and didn’t speak English very well. If they hadn’t said anything, they woulda been fine but apparently they weren’t resort guests and asked about this bus going to MK. (You can only take a bus from another park to MK by way of the Ticket and Transportation Center. Some people didn’t seem to get that) Anyway they kept asking and the driver found out that they weren’t resort guests and kept asking them to leave the bus cuz other resort guests need to get on. I think they used the language barrier on purpose cuz all they kept sayin was “this bus go to Magic Kingdom, you take us to Magic Kingdom.” This went on forever- they had what looked like a ticket for a charter bus that they kept showing him, and finally he radioed for some help. He even spoke fluent Spanish to them. Nothing worked. We were still waiting and finally one of the women tapped me on the shoulder and asked if this bus went to MK. I replied yes but that it was ONLY for WDW Resort guests, and that must’ve been it, cuz they left after that. Our bus driver Ozzie should be commended for handling the situation so well. I woulda blown a fuse, he must’ve told them to leave 10 times. Oh well. Onto our E-ride night. We ended up fighting the closing crowds, to get in, but boy was it worth it. Rode Haunted Mansion and the CMs were better than ever! Major kudos to them. ALL of them performed on the same level. Then headed for Big Thunder, after that we sat in front of the castle for a while. Its so beautiful at NIGHT. The clouds disappeared and the stars came out. Then an amazing thing happened. The characters came out to greet! Totally unexpected. Got our pic with BOTH Mickey and Minnie together! WOW! Then headed to Space Mtn, Buzz, and TTA. Headed back over to Frontierland to do Splash Mountain, and Big Thunder again. Then did Haunted Mansion again. What a night. We stayed till 1 and got to see the characters all leave into the castle-something out of a dream.
Day 5- July 20th – Epcot/Magic Kingdom:
Got up and decided to have Breakfast at the park- this time at The Electric Umbrella. Beautiful day again. Went and rode Test Track- with a FP, this time, we got to the final safety check and were then held cuz of an E-stop. Only for about 10 mins, then we continued just fine. Did some shopping and then hit the best attraction- Spaceship Earth. Don’t like the video screens-ruins your climb. Everything else was moving as usual! Then we caught Honey I Shrunk the Audience-something I’d never done. Very neat effects-especially the floor. The movie was VERY convincing. We then took a Friendship launch to Germany but not before seeing the Characters on Holiday Bus. Had lunch at the Biergarten. What an atmosphere! Incredible food and the band was VERY entertaining. We then cruised WS again took some pictures. After a while- we headed back to Future World on the launch again, which was very nice, very relaxing, and cool and quick as well-under 5 min trip. Headed back to Mousegear for more shopping and then hit Cranium Command. Pretty neat show. After a refresh at the resort again we head to MGM one last time to catch the parade. Again it was cancelled. Storms started to flare up. They delayed it at first, and after 20 mins cancelled it. I don’t know why they just didn’t do it in the time they delayed but oh well. Then went over to MK for our last night dinner. Rode Monorail Yellow again. The skies looked horrible and then it started to rain. Tried to ride Dumbo, but it was shut down due to lightning. Had dinner at Cinderella’s Royal Table and before being seated we got to see Cinderella herself. Almost got my pic taken with her, but was seated before. And I’m REALLY trying not to sound like an 18-y/o male, but was she beautiful. Man! They hit it right on the nose with her, looked just like the character. Ok, moving on to dinner. Had an awesome steak and potato cische (sp??). And had Chocolate Mousse for dessert. We sat by the window and had a great view of Fantasyland. Park REALLY started to clear out as the rain just continued. Mother nature provided some intense fireworks on her own as we ate. After that, it just sprinkled as we rode Haunted Mansion, Small World and Pirates before catching the fireworks.
My apologies for such a long post. I’m a details kinda guy and I thank you if you stuck it all the way through. In my next post I’ll post my summary thoughts on the Parks, the parades, they celebration itself, and my resort- Caribbean Beach. Until next time…. Thanks for reading!
