The new Ducktales just keeps getting better and better. The recent "The Golden Lagoon of White Agony Plains" episode was one of the best yet, featuring the return of Goldie O'Gilt, Glomgold at his most devious, and some great character background for Scrooge.

And then, about half way through, Scrooge stumbles into Rainbow Caverns. And it looks spot-on perfect.

I nearly wept. :D

I will forever be disappointed that they didn't add a tunnel between the New Orleans Station and Toontown Station, after the train passes the ROA, where the DLRR goes through the caverns when they rebuilt the Rivers..

Yeah, the tunnel to Toontown was slapped together. It was obviously inspired by the
Griffith Park tunnel from the movie and that's charming, but the payoff is a schoolyard chain link fence on the other side. A cave scene instead would have been awesome. Alas. Earwax. They awkwardly slapped together a bunch of stuff like static foxes and a static horse on a paved road with a fence. What?

Maybe its easier to animate because the characters are constantly off-model. Much faster to crank out these episodes.
Stylized characters, if done well, need to be as on-model as more traditional designs in order for the show to work. Kim Possible did it wonderfully. The new Ducktales keeps surprising me with how much depth (both visually and character-wise) they're getting from the more stylized look-- a lot of that has to do with some really great, sharp storyboarding.

And then there are the new Mickey shorts....
