Experience with renting a motorized cart?

If you have experience with renting and using one of these at WDW, can you please share? I think if we can swing this trip in the fall with my parents, we will definitely need one. Maybe two.
Also any info about how difficult and the amount of time it takes each day. Anything other info anyone thinks would be helpful about this would be great!

And no, not experiences with being hit or run over with one. Although maybe driving tips to prevent my parents from doing this to others would be good. ;)

I've been there twice with my Dad and we rented from Apple Scooters both times. They were great to deal with. When we booked the 1st time, the folks at Disney recommended some 3rd party companies to deal with and Apple Scooter was one of them. They dropped off and picked the scooter from the Disney resort we stayed at. Are you staying on property?

My mom did. Driving tip - practice.

Pack a lot of patience. Going through the parks with those things will take much, MUCH longer than walking. You will find yourselves stopped dead a lot, with everyone passing in front of you so you can't go forward. Just be ready for it. Patience is a virtue! :)

Have a good trip!

Yes. Patience. My Mom always had a difficult time backing it up into the bus.:(
I would rent from an "outside" source as they deliver to the resorts and you can keep it w/ you the entire trip.. We've never had any problems and/or issues. I think ours was Sunshine Scooters? There are so many of them now! I guess I'd say google it.:D

i have rented two scooters from disney each of the last three times i took my parents. they were 77, 80 and 81 on those trips. walking the parks was not an option.
we chose not to rent from an outiside source for several reasons. we rent a car, we find it a faster way to get where we're going with no lines to stand in for busses, etc. and also did not want to deal with getting the ECVs on and off the disney busses and boats, etc. (we often stay poly/wilderness lodge etc where boat is your fastest transportation.)
we did not want to have to disassemble and reassemble two carts each time we went somewhere in the car. not to mention lifting them in and out of the car. so decided getting them in the parks was easier.
also, a few times the carts broke down (ok, well, maybe my mom hit a wall or something and the auto-stop thing kicked in, once just unknown reason it wouldn't go), the advantage of onsite rental? the CM told us to just go into the ride we are planning to go to, they took care of getting it changed out, transferred over the stuff in the baskets, and we were ready to go when we came back out! now that's service you can't get from an outside source.
all rental places are indeed inside the turnstile/entrance. so it does take about 10-15 min after you are through gates and trying to get to where you are going. same thing at end of day- about 5-10 min to do paperwork. this was not a big deal, as most places let you inside the park before you can actually go to the rides, and hold you in a main area to wait. so we were able to rent them and still keep up with crowds when they drop the rope for THE TOY STORY MIDWAY MANIA MARATHON !!
downside of renting outside? you only have them IN the parks. but all hotels have wheelchairs that you can use while on property, so we would drop the parents off at the front door and i would go get their wheelchairs from bell services, while someone else parked the car. (although if your parents have handicapped parking stickers, valet parking is free and you can just all get out at the front door and go in (since we have young healthy relatives with us, we just felt guilty doing that). we could get them all around the property easily with this wheelchair- to pools, restaurants, gift shops, etc.
not knocking off site rentals, but we very much prefer onsite rental, and it is a minor inconvenience.
as far as your folks running over other folks, yeah, it's going to happen. folks just right in front of you to beat you to where you're going.
but they dont' go very fast, so no major hospital requirng injuries reported. but lots of apologies! they do take some getting used to, and it does take longer to get through crowded areas. but in non crowded areas, i couldn't keep up with THEM- i had to run to stay with them, so it's a fair trade off.

We rented from Apple Scooter by the week and paid $175 - $200 between the 2 times. My 75 year old Dad had no problem driving it on and off the bus at the resorts and parks. On our 1st trip, we took the scooter on the bus, monorails, boats, and even the train in AK. We rented the 4 wheel scooter with captains chair for better stability and comfort. If I remember right, it was about $55 per day in the parks to rent. So it was cheaper to rent by the week from a 3rd party vendor. Also it was nice to have the scooter to get around CSR on our 1st trip. Here is Apple's web address: http://www.applescooter.com/

Thanks!
Hmmm, I guess I will need to see how my parents' health is closer to that time. I don't think any of us will want to have to constantly drag that onto the buses. But if we have to, we have to. My parents (as of now) would probably be ok getting to and from the parks without the carts, but would need them inside.
So much to consider!

In all the years and visits to WDW, I've too often signs at ECV pickup in the parks stating none were available. That would be a deal-breaker. Coupled with the much-higher cost of on-site rental, I chose to rent one from Apple Scooter for an 84-year-old friend's first visit to WDW. She had protested needing one, but within a day she became expert at handling it. In fact another friend and I had trouble keeping up with her in the parks. Also, every bus driver was extremely helpful while she maneuvered on and off the buses.
