Beginning January 10, 2008, the Walt Disney World Resort will transition its kennel operations to an industry expert, Best Friends PetCare Inc. Best Friends is a national provider of pet hospitality in the United States, with 44 locations in 18 states.

Conversion of Walt Disney World Resort Kennels to Best Friends will occur in phases throughout the months of January and February 2008 with the anticipated transition schedule as follows:

1/10/08 - Transportation and Ticket Center and Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground Kennels

1/24/08 - Epcot Kennel

2/7/08 - Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom Kennels

Best Friends is also slated to build and operate a full-service, luxury pet "resort" at the Walt Disney World Resort. The one-of-a-kind pet facility is expected to open in mid-2009 and will be located on Bonnet Creek Parkway. The luxury pet "resort" will cater to park and resort Guests and will provide a full range of pet hospitality services. Note, with the addition of this facility, there are no plans to allow pets in Guest rooms at any of the Disney Resort Hotels with the exception of designated service animals.

Another example of Disney outsourcing

Pretty soon the valets at the resorts are going to be from an outside company, as well as the overnight cleanup crews. Just wait and see!!!

Both of those already have outsourced, at least to some degree. Just because they wear a Disney nametag doesn't mean Disney signs their paychecks, FYI. Think of all the restaurants in the World Showcase - all of which are outsourced "partner" restaurants.

I have wanted to be able to bring the babies with us to WDW for years now. When we had Beanie, who died earlier this year from a congential heart defect, it was especially hard to leave the dogs, all Chihuahuas, with a pet resort, but even with our three remaining dogs, it is still hard to leave them here. We miss them as much as we imagine that they miss us. I am so excited to be able to bring them finally. Our boy has epilepsy, and while we trust the PetsHotel service that is run through PetsMart, I know that he would do better stress-wise if given the chance to see us every couple of days. I can certainly make time in the itinerary for that!

This is the best news that I have read about WDW in a very long time. Thank you!!!! Maggie

I am leaving december 17th and wondering what current options are available if I decide to bring my yorkshire terrier. I understand that the kennels there do offer overnight boarding but they also require you to take them out 2-3 times a day. I'm looking for something a bit more full service.

As long as they do a good job, whats the problem? Wages will probably be higher, and that leaves the CMs to do other jobs where they are needed. Disney has a hard time getting CMs, remember. And if they are going to continue expanding, they are going to continue to need more and more staff, and outsourcing is one way of accomplishing that.

But go ahead and complain. All change is bad when it comes to Disney, after all.

I am leaving my "baby" (a 5 month old Australian cattle dog) at home with our daughter who has his litter mate, he will have fun staying with her and his brother. I couldn't think of leaving him at the kennels in WDW and taking him for a walk a few times a day, he would be miserable and therefore so would I. I do have a great kennel here in Indy called "pet suites", they are wonderful with our pets, pricey but wonderful. The dogs get to go out 4 times a day and we can pay for as many "extra" walks that we want, they have indoor and outdoor dog park like settings for play times twice a day and the best.....TV for the dogs (animal planet all day if you want) and toddler beds for sleeping at night. They also have a full service dog salon, so we pick up a good smelling, clean doggie when we come home. This trip he stays with his brother tho and he will be very happy! He hasn't had to stay at the kennel yet, he's still too young but we have used the kennel for a number of years for our dear departed dog :(. When our new guy gets old enough I would not hesitate to use them again tho.

Yay, I'm really excited about this. I think that is one of the hardest parts, is leaving our pets at home, so this is exciting. I wish they'd make a pet friendly hotel for guests as well, maybe.

Does anyone know if this group is in some way associated with Best FRiends Pet Sanctuary. If so thats really cool as I'm a donater there. It's a large sanctuary in Utah that takes in tons of injured or sick pets and sees to it they live the best lives possible.

This is wonderful news! I love the Best Friends Pet Care company, I wish there was one closer to me. I'd love to have taken training classes there, but alas, I had to figure it out on my own.

Oh, this is so exciting! Maybe we can finally drive up with our two poodles, and they can finally have a "vacation" in WDW... :D Both my mom and I weren't happy about the current procedures of how the WDW Kennels work, so hopefully, the new company will be better for us, and everyone else who has dogs/cats.

Thanks for the info!

OOOOH! I love this news! I was really bummed to read that the kennels they have now won't even take your dog for a walk while you're in the park and you have to go back and walk them 3 times a day. I think that's nuts.

This sounds so great.
