Everest Heat Issues?

When I was at WDW earlier in the month, I noticed two odd things about EE:

1) They had a small hose type sprinkler on the track about 2 seconds after you left the station. It only sprayed about two inches high.

2) They would leave two of the rows in either the second or third car empty.

Is EE having problems with the summer heat?

I don't hink it's the heat. Maybe there was a problem with the photo system on that car, or a restraint probelm. We still have yet to figure out the sprinklers. Someone else asked, and It's a bit mind boggling. All I can think of is cooldown from the friction thorought the ride, but that doesn't make much sense.

Sprinklers on the tracks is also used on California Screaming at DCA, and im sure numerous roller coasters worldwide. Nothing major im sure.

my guess is the sprinkler is there to help lubricate the wheels. Im sure its done every morning, but with the heat, the grease can dry out quickly.

On Cali Screain', those are used to quickly cool down the lim launch magnetics. RnRC doens't need them because it's a/c controlled.

The lubrication point makes sense.

I really don't think that it's for lubrication. They use oil in the wheel assemblies for lubrication. Water and oil don't mix.

What I think the sprinkler is for, is for the anti-rollback magnets. The reason you don't hear the "clickety click" while going up both lift hills, is because the anti-rollback pawl, which normally makes that noise as you ascend the lift, is held up in place by a magnet that is energized as long as the train is moving. I bet those were getting pretty warm, so they added the sprinkler to cool down those magnets.

magnets

IT must be for cooling down the roll back magnets. Every coaster that I know that has water like that is used for cooling purposes.

If you go on ttd orr kk they use water after the train launches to cool down the system.

So iwould think it would be used to cool something down like a couple of other posters stated.

Yes, it was an issue of the heat affecting the wheels. It was making the trains go a little faster, and was sometimes overshooting at unload and shadow of the Yeti. The sprinklers and not loading the second car were the quick fixes and are now out of use, because Vekoma came back in and installed a set of trim brakes in the backwards part, right before the shadow of the Yeti track switch. If it senses the train is going a little too fast, it trims down the speed a notch. So the problem has been solved thankfully.

When we rode the front car just over a week ago I noticed the sprinklers working - and it was raining !!
The trains were also run to full capacity - no empty seats

It seems like they've had a lot of problems with this attraction. Not major stuff, but just seems like a lot of little things, one after the other. I don't recall other Disney attractions (or Universal attractions for that matter) having this many problems.

Test Track? Opened almost a year late(maybe more) because of numerous problems, and still breaks down several times a day
