Evening Entertainment

Hi All,
I am visiting from the UK in summer 2019....
Was just wondering if anyone had any ideas for some evening entertainment in and around the WDW resort
as some of you may have seen from some of my other posts, we are going to visit Orlando Magic, and also I-Drive
However, as a non-driver, i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for activities i can do with my 7 year old in the evenings (if he isn't too shattered from the days activities)
Can you maybe categorize them for me, for example 1 for expensive, 2 for mid-range and 3 for relatively low cost

You'll have all of the firework and light shows at the parks, so that's at least 4 evenings covered. We tend to stay in the parks in the evenings anyway, as we like to see everything lit up and some of the rides provide a different experience at night too!

If you've seen the evening show once though, inst in the same thing again every night?
At evenings during the park, does the wait time for rides drastically come down?

There's the Chip and Dale BBQ singalong at Fort Wilderness.

There are free "movies under the stars" at various resorts, which you can go to even if not staying at that resort.

Here's the thing about WDW in the summer - it's HOT!! And HUMID!! I'm talking surface of the sun hot. Being in the parks in the afternoon can be incredibly draining. Especially if you live in a more temperate area. Which is why many recommend spending that time back at the Resorts. Cooling off in your room and/or the pool. Then spending the evening back in the parks.

Outside the parks you can find outdoor movies at most resorts- different ones each night. As mentioned, there is the campfire and sing along at Ft. Wilderness. There are also the dinner shows - the Luau at the Poly or the Hoop Dee Doo revue at Ft. Wilderness. Various fireworks cruises. POR and POFQ have live entertainment on certain evenings each week. POR has Yee Ha Bob. POFQ has jazz. Disney Springs is always an option, and I believe they sometimes have live entertainment.

And what does each resort offer?

Here are the links to each one on the WDW website

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/en_GB/resorts/port-orleans-resort-riverside/

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/en_GB/resorts/port-orleans-resort-french-quarter/

And a few more links I found under 'Things to do' on the official site used above

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/e...t-riverside/yehaa-bob-jackson-at-river-roost/

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/en_GB/entertainment/disney-springs/amc-disney-springs-24/

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/en_GB/dining/polynesian-resort/disney-spirit-of-aloha-dinner-show/

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/en_GB/entertainment/magic-kingdom/electrical-water-pageant/

Note: the electrical water pageant is worth seeing, imo, and you can see it from various resorts around both 7 seas lagoon (the "MK lake") and Bay Lake (which is behind the Contemporary resort).

Which brings me to resort hopping. Some of the resorts are well worth going to. Animal Kingdom Lodge in particular has loads of activities going on throughout the day, plus of course places to watch the animals on the savannahs (not the same savannahs as on the safari ride at AK). It would make a nice non-park rest day.

The only thing you can't do at other resorts is swimming. But Wilderness Lodge is worth visiting, make sure you see the geyser and the stream that starts inside the lobby. Fort Wilderness has lots of activities too. Your seven year old would probably also love Art of Animation, POP and the All Star resorts for the theming. The Grand Floridian has a pianist and orchestra as well as being beautiful.

And resorts' QS restaurants are often far better than those in the parks, with lots more choice.

You can use the Disney buses, boats, monorail to get around. Don't forget the "obvious" - like getting on the monorail and going all the way round the MK loop and also going on the Epcot line all the way round too. Boats go from Port Orleans resorts to Disney Springs, or between Epcot and DHS, and all the way round the lakes too between resorts. You just can't get direct by bus from one resort to another, you need to get to a park first.

You can also hire watercraft at marinas at the Beach Club, Contemporary, GF amongst others. Or bikes.

If you go onto the WDW site you can search for things like "bike hire" or "boat hire".

Def check out the official links on these resorts that were already posted. They are connected by a walking path. For a seven year old, these sister resorts make a great choice, you have access to all the amenities at both. Double the kid friendly pools, and, as was mentioned, movies under the stars. I think planning on seeing the night shows included in the ticket prices at the parks are a great way to end the day. And no additional expense. Also boat ride to Disney Springs leaves from the dock of Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter...my six year old nephew loved the boat! And it runs until 11pm.

As far as night time, I am pretty sure your seven year old will be wiped out before too late. My OVERLY energetic, go-go-go nephew didn't even make it through some of the night shows he was so tired. A swim at the pool at night is a great wind down option. Most resorts have arcades too. Both these are good for kids at night, burns off the last bit of energy (if there is any left) and keeps them close to pj's and bed when the crankiness sets in. :)

Very thorough answer! But one little tid bit I think is cool at AKL they have night vision goggles that the attendant will help you with and point out animals. I like resort hopping many have some sort of entertainment going on. And as mentioned it is steamy hot. Some go to there rooms mid day to sleep and cool down and are able to go back to park later in the day as it cools down "a little ". Enjoy!

Oh, good call about the night vision goggles. I loved them, with the fire pit to keep warm and a drink in hand!

And totally agree about the heat. I think OP should consider taking a mid-day break for swim time or just to cool off, before going back in the evenings. Although you can mix it up with some late start days too, so as to fit in the MK parade and touring WS, which I love doing from around 3pm onwards.
