ESPN to Use SkyCam for Two Games
NEW YORK (AP) -- ESPN will use SkyCam on two NFL exhibition games, trying out the overhead shots that were used by the XFL. The network will test the camera during Jets-Steelers on Thursday and Raiders-Titans on Aug. 15. "It's a continuation of our experiment with SkyCam. ABC used it on the Pro Bowl. We want to con-tinue to look at it," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Wednesday. "It's been approved for use somewhere down the road." SkyCam is a camera suspended on wires over the field, with movements controlled by computer. NBC used it for the short-lived XFL, CBS tried it during the NCAA basketball tournament, and it has also been used on college football bowl games. ESPN might want to use the technology during the regular season. "We hope it works out," ESPN spokesman Dave Nagle said. "We think it provides a unique angle, similar to that of a video game."
