Espn.com Polls Users, Seeking Inspiration
(USA Today) -- Online polling isn't scientific. But it might say something about people who go online. To help launch a SportsNation section this week, espn.com polled 40,000 online users to find how they're inspired by sports. Oklahomans, the research says, lead the USA in combining beer drinking with watching sports, averaging 8.9 beers a week. New Hampshire ranked last. Among major cities, Bostonians are most likely to sneak into games, Buffalonians are most likely to cry over a home-team loss and Chicagoans are most likely to skip work or school to go to a game. SportsNation is supposed to let fans compare themselves and will be the umbrella for espn.com's various fan chat rooms. The inaugural poll also found that Nevadans say they spend the most time checking sports online (9.1 hours weekly) and Utah ranks last (5.5 hours weekly). Utah also ranks last in hours spent watching TV sports at 9.7 hours weekly.
