On the special airing on September 10th, 2006 on the Travel Channel about WDW, they stated that there were three water parks. River Country closed officially in 2002, correct? On the special, they showed Mission: Space and other somewhat new additions to the park. M:S opened in 2003. Did this special air earlier (say, early 2000's) and did things get added to it? I am certain this special aired quite earlier. It didn't show River Country at all (I didn't notice it at least, it would have been something that would have stuck out to me). I am guessing it was just old information, but any information on my theories?

The show was a re-run, I'm guessing the show was produced before it was made official that RC would never open again.

There is at least one show out there that was updated with some Mission:Space stuff after it opened. The original airing simply showed concept art of the pavilion as an example of what the future at WDW held. Shortly MS opened, a repeat of that same special showed an updated version with actual footage from the attraction. That is the current version that continues to repeat to this day.

I can't tell you which show it is (I think it is WDW:Behind the Scenes) or if that is the show you saw. However, I can tell you that many of the Travel Channel shows were filmed in 2001/2002. You can tell because the 100 Years Of Magic banners can be seen hanging in the parks on those shows.

It was produced in 2002. I checked the date in the closing credits after I, too, noticed the mention or three water parks and no mention of Everest or Soarin'.

They ran a show on the Travel Channel this weekend on AK, no mention was made of EE. I think the shows are a bit dated.

Yeah, I remember watching it as they were talking about all the 'available space' AK has for new attractions and such. No mention of EE, so I figured this was foreshadowing on the Travel Channel's part to say that big things were in store for AK.

No. Officially on January 20th 2005 TWDC announced that RC would never open again. The park ceased operation in late 2001. If I am remebering this correctly. I think that show was shot in early 2003. I have it on my DVR. I will have to watch it. It shows the MS exterior almost complete.

I've seen these re-runs alot, its the end of summer lots of cable networks run re-runs at the end of the season before the fall television season begins. Also, it was not it the programming guide as new.

I take it as a chance to re-live old Disney memories.

Mabee they just dont want us to forget that RC was the first "Water Park" ever in the US. IMO they should do what ever it takes to reopen the attraction. Theres no reason that they couldnt fill in around where it meets with bay lake and make it own chlorinated pool. Dont add anything new, keep it like it was, make it a private pool area fro FW guests and have it as a paid admission to anyone else from other resorts. This would keep the attendance up from the guests at FW but also allow others to revisit The Ol' Waterin Hole from the past.

We have noticed that a lot of those Travel Channel shows have a habit of being kind of loose with facts, usually just with the way they phrase things. Or with the way they stage them. We like to play "guess which apparent guests are really CMs."
