July 29
LOS ANGELES (PRNewswire) -- Community activist and real-life champion of justice Erin Brockovich will host a new LIFETIME reality drama series "Final Justice" to air in First Quarter 2003, it was announced today by Bill Brand, Senior Vice President, Reality Programming.
Based on true accounts of women who face extraordinary circumstances, Brockovich will help tell the stories of these inspiring women who have battled their way back from the brink of despair. They each had the courage to fight the system, and ultimately prevail, in spite of seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
"I am so happy that Lifetime Television is celebrating the accomplishments of these brave women," said Brockovich. "These true stories need to be shared and I know that 'Final Justice' will be an inspiration for all women to make a difference in their communities."
Brockovich is no stranger to fighting the system and overcoming enormous barriers. She has established herself as a respectable and fierce fighter in the face of wrong-doing. Her real-life experience in taking on a large corporation to protect a small town inspired her story to be told in the Oscar Award-nominated movie, "Erin Brockovich." Brockovich helped the plaintiffs win $333 million in damages in one of the largest class-action lawsuits in history.
"LIFETIME is thrilled to have Erin as a part of this project. 'Final Justice' is truly a reflection of Erin's tenacity and strength of spirit," commented Brand. "Erin has walked in these women's shoes and embodies the belief that one woman can make a difference in this world. She is a true inspiration to women everywhere."
In "Final Justice," viewers will get a chance to witness real-life women who encounter injustice, and through acts of courage, decide to take on the system in order to prevail. The show will highlight cases such as the true story of Susan Wilson, an unsuspecting woman from Louisiana who finds out her neighbor has been videotaping her most private moments in her home. As seen in the LIFETIME Original Movie, "Video Voyeur: The Susan Wilson Story", "Final Justice" will follow Susan's plight to bring her neighbor to justice after she finds out that what her neighbor is doing is not illegal. With fierce determination, Susan goes on a one-woman crusade to change the laws so that such acts are a punishable crime throughout the country.
"Final Justice" will also tell the incredible stories of women triumphing over deception, as seen in the story of Jane Alexander, a Northern Californian housewife whose husband dies from a heart attack which prompts her to turn to an old family friend for comfort and love.
Little does the widow know that this man, who she thinks she can trust, will end up committing acts of crime and violence against her and her family. Jane embarks on a decade long campaign to find the evidence to bring the con-artist to justice. "Final Justice" will also feature ordinary women who, even when encountered with insurmountable odds, choose to battle the legal system. This is the case in the tragic account of Rhea Harvey, an African-American woman from Kansas City, MO whose husband is murdered by three white men. An all white jury in the South acquits the three men of the crime, in spite of an overwhelming amount of evidence against them. Outraged by the decision, Rhea rolls up her sleeves to find a way to put her husband's killers behind bars. These are just a few of the areas that this new series will explore.
"Final Justice" is produced by LMNO Cable Group Inc. ("Boot Camp," "Behind Closed Doors with Joan Lunden" and "Kids Say the Darndest Things with Bill Cosby") for LIFETIME Television. The new reality drama series is executive produced by Eric Schotz, Bill Paolantonio and Kathy Williamson. Ruth Rivin is the co-executive producer.
