Epcot's igloo!!

Hi, I remember going back a couple of trips when we were in Epcot, we went through a freezing entrance to a place where we tried varieties of drinks from around the world, some rather bad in fact(shudder) I knew it as the Igloo! We would stand at the entrance and say "everyone ready, let's go" and ran, with the Florida heat it should of been welcoming...On our last trip we noticed that the cold entrance had gone, the vile drinks were still there, but gone was our dashing to get there which seemed a shame as it was quite fun! Does anybody else have any quirky things they remember that have gone?

Yeah, I remember this wonderfully themed club where you went in a library and heard tales of adventures and sang songs. Great place.

That would be the former Ice Station Cool sponsored by Coca Cola. The attraction was updated to look like a club (actually more like the World of Coke's sampling room) with added room for merchandise and soda dispensers.

Well lets see there was there attraction about the future that is now gone, there was another about the history of transportation that is also gone, all the imagination was removed from the imagination pavilion and I definitely miss taking the Nautilus to Atlantis.

The old one was so much better. I loved to walk through the entrance on a hot day. A better relief than air conditioned stores.

The name is now Club Cool. Worst soda is the one from Italy.:hurl:

I like Beverley. :)

I had a load of fun this weeked there. You can tell who is hanging out, waiting to see someone try Beverly.

I would find such a group, walk up and act as if it was all new to me, and start sampling sodas. You could see the anticipation build as these people watched me work my way to the Beverly. Then I would get a cup, take a big swig, show no reaction, and move to the next one.

The looks of confusion and disappiontment on peoples faces was priceless. So, does that make me a mad person for messing with them :)

I could only smile when Sam went to Epcot in 1998 for the first time. When we got on the hydrolators, she looked over at me and said, "wait, are we really going down?" followed by, "Maybe like a floor or 2"... and being the cheeseball i am, I said, "Nope, we are going down to seabase alpha.

:D she smiled and played along. I later told her that you didnt go down any. She got mad at me for ruining the magic... so i dont tell her any tricks anymore.

EDIT: wow, that was way off subject, but I think where i was going with that is, the ice cool station was there then and we loved it.

You are right. There does seem to be a lack of imagination and illusion lately. Anyone could have done Club Cool and there is nothing uniquely Disney about it. I am all about change but it needs to be a change for the better. I miss Diseny taking something as simple as a french fry cart and making it a unique experience.

As it sits now it really doesn't. In the grand scheme of things I am not that worried about that aspect just the inherent lack of imagination that the current attraction has especially compared to what we had before. In essence they are still the same...a place to try beverages from around the world that we can not get in the US. But the theming and the story of the original attraction was just so much more Disney. I mean you are in central Florida, it is 100 degrees out side and you are suddenly in an arctic tunnel complete with ice and a frozen cave man that takes you to Coke's arctic base camp. Now we just walk into a club....yippity freaken do.

I miss Club Cool. I wanted to take my husband through it on our honeymoon but I think at that time I was undergoing "de-imagination." I know it was a bit random to see an igloo nestled in the corner of the Fountain of Nations/Innoventions area but I think that might have been part of the draw. That and that massive amount of cold air coming out of it :D

I liked the snow crawlers tread... they were in the shape of Coke bottles. The snow effects always worked when I went in there as well. Nothing like walking under it and an ice shaving hit the back of you neck and make you jump. :D

That last couple of years that Ice Station Cool was there is was in terrible condition. The Snow Cat had rust spots all over and a few lights out. The tunnel's snow maker was um well, not much of a snowmaker anymore. The last time I was in there the cave was barely even cool. Even the paint on the entrance to the ice cavern needed to be redone.

I loved the themeing of it, but it was just in the wrong place. It did not fit in with the bldg's of FW and neither does Club cool, but it is a little better but boring.

Now put Ice Station Cool into the Everest mountain and now were talking. Maybe even a roller coaster drive thru. Stop to watch the yeti tear up the track and they offer you vial tasting Coke products.
