Epcot's Flower and Garden Festival, is it worth it?

This is from my weekly blog and I would like to know your thoughts about this:

Every year Epcot presents the Flower & Garden Festival. I have had many people ask what is it and is it worth my time to go and see it? What is Epcot’s Flower & Garden Festival? The Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival, inaugurated in 1994, brings out the real color of Epcot in specially-themed floral displays throughout the park, many including topiary sculptures of Disney characters. Guests can meet gardening experts and learn new ideas they can use in their own home gardens. The 15th annual event is scheduled for March 19 - June 1, 2008.

The next question of “is it worth my time to go see it?” That depends on what type of things you like. If you are not an outdoors person, or you are someone who goes to Walt Disney World strictly for the attractions, then your time is probably better spent elsewhere. But if you do have an appreciation for the outdoors and love plants and beautiful flowers then Epcot’s Flower & Garden Festival is not to be missed. The entire park has a different feel to it during this Festival. Normally Epcot has a futuristic theme, but the Flower & Garden Festival transforms this park into something much more. The topiaries and flower plantings throughout the park will truly make you think that you are in the middle of a nature park, not a theme park – ok outside of the screech of the cars racing by on Test Track. There is also a butterfly garden that you can walk through and view the different stages of a butterfly’s life, as well as see many different types flying around you. Just outside of the butterfly garden is a children’s playground, which will occupy your kids for awhile and allow you to sit down and relax for a bit.

We have been to this festival the past several years and they are constantly changing the topiaries and placements, making it a different experience every year. There are also many interactive exhibits that children can take part in, such as the exhibit where children can decorate a box filled with seeds and take them home to plant. Another neat thing to do is to ride the monorail from the Transportation and Ticket Center to Epcot. The monorail will give you a bird’s eye view of the Festival and allows you for excellent pictures from above of many of the arrangements.

I don't see why you shouldn't see it, especially if you've never been to Epcot. The topiaries and flower arrangements don't cost anything to see, since they are located throughout the park, and the are very beautiful. Would I say that you should make a special trip there just to see the flower arrangements? Depends on how much you like flowers.

For me, its kind of like if its going on when I go to Epcot, great, otherwise, its no big deal. The festival really has no bearing on when I decide to go to Epcot.

BTW - I personally find the Food and Wine Festival superior to the F&G Festival, so I may have a slight bias regarding F&G.

Unless you are a local, you aren't going to make a trip just to see the F&G Festival.

Therefore 'is it worth it?' really isn't a relevant question. Its just something extra for your trip.

My wife and I LOVE the Flower & Garden Festival. We just got back a few weeks ago from our fourth year in a row going to F&GF. While it's not the main reason we always go down in April, it's definitely a big factor. We spent almost an entire day wandering around Epcot just looking at the beautiful topiaries and gardens. We spent a great deal of time in the festival center(Garden Town)in the old Wonders of Life building. Neither my wife or myself have a green thumb at all but not only do we have a blast at F&GF but it has stirred within us a new appreciation for flowers and gardening and we now have a strong desire to get into both. My wife was so fired up and excited about it during this last trip that she spent a small fortune on floral/gardening supplies at Garden Town.:lookaroun

Another plus is the Flower Power concert series held every year. I was so bummed this past trip because I didn't get to see Starship, their first night playing was on the day we left.:(

My wife and I aren't "flower people", but we only go to WDW during the flower & garden festival. EPCOT never looks better!

If it's a choice between Flower and Garden and Food and Wine, I'll take Flower and Garden every time. At least it helps beautify the Park further...even if they do play music that completely doesn't fit with EPCOT Center at the entrance during it.
Personally, though, I prefer EPCOT Center without the festivals.

There's a common misconception that the Flower & Garden festival is exclusively horticultural seminars and planting tips. There is a concert series of hippie-variety-"flower-power" bands, there are topiaries in the shape of Disney characters, and certain park gimmicks are put in place like Minnie's Butterfly Garden.

It's definitely a must if you watch HGTV a lot or are a gardener, but others will enjoy it.

I love the F&G Fest, and Disney does a great job at changing it enough each year to keep it interesting.

That said, if you like to eat various cuisine, wait for the Food & Wine Fest...

I prefer the Flower and Garden Festival over the Food and Wine Festival.
EPCOT is really beautiful in The spring with all the topiaries.

The problem I have with the Food and Wine festival is that some individuals think that the object of this festival is to get stinking drunk.
I have gone during both festivals several times and have become discusted with some peoples behavior in the Food and Wine Festival. I've seen lots of people stumbling and vomiting all over the place at EPCOT over the years during the Food and Wine Festival. Especially in the evenings. I wouldn't even take children to EPCOT during this time. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a beer or a glass of wine on occasion, but until Disney gets a better grip on the alcohol situation, we won't EVER be going back to Disney World during The Food and Wine Festival.

Since I live here, I've never actually seen Epcot at night during the Food & Wine Fest. I'd rather go to the Flower & Garden too, with those experiences. :hurl:

Raven has also made a strong argument. :)

Well I ain't complaining about it being on during my trip and I actually see it as a bonus. What's not to like about an abundance of colours and smells that will instantly cheer you up (as if you needed cheering up at Disney) and make your nose run. :)
