So, Tron: Legacy happened. Not sure if I like that it happened (I was horribly disappointed in the film) but it happened just the same. Disney is pushing hard, hoping those Blu Ray sales give them enough to release another one as they really want a franchise.
I think TRON would be well suited for an attraction at a Disney park, and imagineers are currently blue-skying their own, hoping to get the greenlight eventually.
I have an plot. I have a name. I even know what park I'd put it in, and where it would go in said park, but the question is...what kind of a ride would it be?
First things first. The name.
TRON: Enter the Grid
Located in the currently vacant area between Rock n' Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror, a new mini-section of the park would play host to the attraction, a gift shop and arcade, and a new counter service restaurant.
the ENCOM store serves as both the ride's gift shop and an actual arcade featuring classic 80's arcade games, including TRON and Space Paranoids
"Silicon Valley Burgers" is a new counter-service dining option that is themed to computers and video games. Tables in the dining area feature top down video games like Pac-Man and Centipede.
"ENCOM Plaza" would also feature nightly entertainment in front of a fountain that uses music and colored lights (think a mini version of the Fountain of Nations, but with electronic music)
Guests enter the attraction through a Hollywood branch of Flynn's Arcade. The queue is features interactive "arcade games" to keep guests entertained while waiting. At the back of the queue is a lone TRON arcade game unit. Guests are ushered past it into a pre-show room. Inside they are informed they have been chosen to be beta-test the newest ENCOM virtual experience, digitization onto the Grid.
After a fiber-optics show to represent being digitized, guests are then brought to their ride vehicles.
The plot of the ride is this. Guests are digitized and placed on the grid, as per the pre-show's set up. Things, as usual in a theme park, go wrong when Ed Dillinger Jr. uploads his fathers old Master Control Program onto the server, as well as a new version of the Sark program. Together they attempt to derez the guests, who now have to escape the grid alive. It's not just a game anymore.
This is where I get stuck. What kind of a ride should this be. I have so many ideas it boggles my mind.
a few ideas I had were
a) a trackless ride system like TDL's Hunny Hunt, to give the illusion of free movement on the Gird.
b) a EMV ride through the grid, facing off against MCP and Sark using Buzz Lightyear style lazer tag guns.
c) A combo of the two above ideas.
So, what say you? What kind of TRON ride would you like to see. I have one proviso. It cannot be a roller-coaster or drop style ride as those are already covered in this corner of Hollywood Studio. Otherwise, let your imaginations run wild.
edit: why can't you post embeded pictures in this area? other areas let me but not here. Weird.
