Empty Airport Terminal??

Greetings

This is an Orlando Airport question. I arrived there on Christmas Eve around 9:15 PM on Delta. The terminal we parked at was empty, completely empty, no one at all there. No passengers, no crew, no airline workers or any type of staff. All of the gates were closed, they weren’t even activated with flight information. Does anyone know why this may have been? Just curious because I didn’t think to stop and ask someone.

Thanks

I don't know for sure because I don't work at Orlando Airport, but I work at an airport in the UK, so I can have a fairly good guess.

At Christmas a lot of airlines cancel the later flights of the day as there aren't as many passengers travelling. If there were no more outbound flights that day, and you were one of the last inbound, it may be that all the staff required for outbound (which is a much higher number than is needed for inbound) may have already finished. If there are no flights happening, many airport and airline staff will be sent home early. Staff are expensive, so they don't tend to sit around much, they will have their shifts arranged to finish early and work around the lighter flight schedule.

I might be completely wrong, but this is the way things tend to work here.
