Hey all. So, I looooove Disney. Like, it's a sickness or something. And I never really complain about the parks because I typically enjoy my time, but I have to see if I'm the only one who had had this recent complaint. My family and I just stayed at Bay Lake tower for vacation and we were astounded at how loud that dinky night parade is on the lagoon. It would come around 9:00 and maybe again at 10:00. And every time we all woke up to it. It surprised me that a resort that advertises to families with young kids would send a loud parade by the hotels at a time when many young children (and exhausted parents) are asleep. Maybe I never noticed it prior to having a kid with an early bedtime but it really put a damper on our sleep and enjoyment of the hotel.

On a smaller note, I was also surprised during our visit that all of the electrical outlets are very low in the hotels (at least in Bay Lake) and there are no childproof covers. Again, for a resort themed to families it astounds me that these plugs would not be higher or at least covered. I asked at the front desk to see if they had any covers and they kinda thought I was crazy. Yes, I could be more prepared and bring them from home, but it just struck me as odd.

Anyone else have problems with the parade or notice little odd things about WDW once having kids? Just curious. Maybe I'm crazy....

Okay, rant over. Thanks =)

We've stayed in MK area resorts many times, and always make it a point to watch the EWP. The sound system is indeed very powerful.

However, I've never heard it from inside the room as anything more than faint background noise. Sometimes it's been enough to remind us that it's going on, so we can run outside and see it. But I've never heard it over a TV or any other "white noise". We've traveled with good friends who have two little kids, always staying at BLT, and they've never been waken up by it.

Of course, all the adults have always been awake at 9pm, so we've never been awaken by it :p

Exactly as it should be. I'll assume you really meant to call the "dinky night parade" "the last of a very few remaining original Disney treasures that should run until the Apocalypse kills us all. I for one will be watching the EWP when that happens."

Cant say I've ever heard it from my room, cause I'm always out on the dock waiting anxiously for it to come by. And youre lucky your kids are asleep by 9:00. We could never get DS to fall asleep early when we were at Disney. :joyfull: And good call... I never thought of adding outlet covers to my packing list and cant ever remember seeing them on others list either...

As will I!

I'd be honored to be woken up by that "dinky" parade. :)

So would I!

We've intentionally watched it from our balcony.

Those outlet covers would constantly be disappearing if Disney put them in the rooms. Throw some in a ziploc bag for your trip, that is what we did. Doesn't take up that much room in the suitcase.

When I stay in the Magic Kingdom side of the Hawaii longhouse at Disneys Polynesian Resort it tends to wake me up if I happen to be sleeping when it comes around. I either get up and watch it and giggle like a 5 year old child, or I just roll over and go back to sleep with a smile on my face.

Haha-thanks everyone for your feedback..Maybe I was just being a grumpus. =) I do enjoy the parade myself, I guess as a sleep deprived new Dad I was just surprised at how loud it is....Next time she'll be older and can enjoy it more, I suppose.

Aren't US sockets like those in the UK, where it's pretty much impossible to electrocute yourself?

First they have to flip the switch to on, then insert a pin into the earth prong, which is necessary to draw back the covers which shield the live and neutral prongs.

To our ears, EWP is not as long as fireworks and in our opinion, the booms from the fireworks are much louder than the EWP soundtrack. We always enjoy EWP, soundtrack and all. May we suggest it is the stockpiled as the broadcast loop for all TV stations for the end of the world.

Not that I think Disney should be responsible but...

Yes, you can shock yourself in an outlet. There is typically no switch to turn on as they are live all the time. You can stick in any kind of metal, even just a coin.

You can get a shock. You can't really kill yourself with it, but it will leave a lasting impression. To the OP we would just bring some with us. I've never seen a hotel/condo provide them.

It's loud at BLT. When we stayed there I noticed it too. I don't know if the rooms just aren't as sound proof as the older hotels or if there is some other reason, but it was much louder. My kids were 3 and 6 and both slept through it on the nights they were asleep already so you probably don't have long before it won't wake her.

I don't remember it being that loud when we stayed at Contemporary on the Bay Lake side. I do remember our kids sleeping through it but I was on the balcony watching. :)
