it's been running at Disney's California Adventure now (or at least it was the last time I was out that way last year).

When it left they said that it wouldn't be coming back, but I'm sure anything is possible.

I have the BEST Disney memories of that parade... I miss it so... And that song! I wonder if it's on a Disney park CD...? I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

if I remember correctly the original MSEP at DL was dismantled and they sold off individual light bulbs and such. Then the "new" Light Magic parade came on and the public didn't like it, this prompted DL to bring back the old parade, and according to a tour guide at WDW he said that central shops at WDW built the new MSEP for DL.... I think the MSEP at WDW ebded up in Tokyo or Paris.

It has been running off and on for the past 2 years or so at DCA.

I have a tape (yes tape...it's very old :lookaroun ) which has the Electrical Parade on it. I forget the name of it, but I'm sure there are CD's with the song.

Wikipedia said:
The Main Street Electrical Parade had counterparts of the same name and layout at the Magic Kingdom which ran from 1977 to 1991 when it was replaced by a similar parade called SpectroMagic. From 1999 to 2001, the original Disneyland parade also appeared at the Magic Kingdom, before returning to Disneyland for the final run. In 1992, the parade from the Magic Kingdom went to Disneyland Paris and ran from 1992 to 2003, when it was replaced by Fantillusion, a nighttime parade from Tokyo Disneyland, which had earlier replaced the Tokyo version of the Main Street Electrical Parade. Tokyo Disneyland's current Electrical Parade, Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade: DreamLights was a return to the style of the original updated with new music and floats.

The Main Street Electrical Parade was so popular that light bulbs certified as having been part of the show were sold to collectors. The 2001 opening of Disney's California Adventure immediately across from Disneyland proved to be the perfect venue for resurrecting the original parade, now titled simply Disney's Electrical Parade since Disney's California Adventure has no "Main Street, USA." The floats were from the original Disneyland parade (sans Pinocchio segment), which ran at the Magic Kingdom afterwards for a short two-year run, and was returned to Anaheim to help bring in crowds at the new park. The parade has been running year-round since July 2001 except on off-season evenings when the park closes at 6:00pm. The costumes and floats were used in the Walt Disney World version starting in 1999 and were shipped to the Southern California facility after the show's run ended. It finished its 9-month hiatus during the 2005 off-season at the Disneyland Resort, which allowed all of the floats to get new lights, and for the drum to say "Disney's Electrical Parade, Presented by Sylvania". The parade has run nearly every night since its opening, except for late 2001 through early 2003, when tourism was down from the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The Light for the Farewell Show were sold for different causes

Fun Fact:
June 14, 1997. The one presentation of the Electrical Parade outside of the Disney parks for the opening of the New Amsterdam Theater and Hercules movie. Called one day on Broadway - "The Hercules Electrical Parade". Disney arranged for the lights to be all turned off on about 8-blocks of Broadway up to the theater. It was lead by a custom Hercules title float made for this one time only use. It was shown on national television on a one hour promotional program featuring the music and making of Hercules.

When DCA is open late - it's pretty much become a regular performance nightly for the park in trying to keep guests in DCA late, or at least later in the night.

I was at Disneyland and DCA in Aug '06 - and it had a performance at 8pm in DCA.

Although I have to say, I was highly PO'd after we went over to catch a spot for the fireworks (50th fireworks) and they were canceled due to high winds (famous at that time of year in Anhm). So, not only did we miss the parade in DCA, we had the fireworks canceled on us as well! I was not a happy camper - but just **signed** and said, well, I'm still in Disneyland!!! :sohappy:

As far as MSEP coming back to WDW - I don't really see it happening. Should they do away with Spectro - I would imagine they will bring out a whole new night time parade. Although - I have so say - with the Parade of Dreams at Disneyland (being just a "regular" parade) - that parade is actually beautiful at night with the lighting they have on the route. When done right, as well all know, Disney can do GREAT things done during the day or night for a parade.

On that note - wasn't the MSEP only brought to WDW while Specto was "out of commission" for its overhaul?

There are several of the Disneyland Cd's that still have the parade music on them (well, I might take that back, there were several when I purchased mine - but that's been over two years ago now). As I have several different versions of the parade on the various "Official Albms of Disneyland" that I have.

The Electrical Parade currently at DCA isn't brand new; in fact, it's actually the original MSEP from DL. If my memory serves me correctly, after the parade ended its run in DL in '96, it was shipped to WDW where it played from '99-'01. After it ended its run there, it came back to DL (minus the Pinocchio segment and the Snow White mine unit) where it's been running since 2003.

You might already know this, but the music is called ' Baroque Hoedown' by (I think) Jean Jacques Perrey. If you search on the internet you may be able to find it. I've been looking and can't find the page. If I do I'll post the URL.

EDIT: I found it! http://www.jean-jacquesperrey.com/

The music is on the Classic Disney Volume II CD.

There are several versions and edit of the MSEP music, from a 4:30 minutes long to the full parade with the "stops" one of the Most complete versions is the surround mix in the Music from Disney collection box set (is a 3 CD set from the 90's) and there is also a very funny one from Dance Dance Revolution: Disney Remix.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that the version playing at DCA (Disney's Electrical Parade) is actually Tokyo's version. Let me look this up.

Edit: Oops, on second thought, I don't think that was right. It looks like it was the original Disneyland version.

On Janurary 2 I took the Keys to the Kingdom tour. Someone asked our tour guide named "Brick" about this parade. He said that there was currently no plans to bring it back, however that they still had floats somewhere at the Magic Kingdom, and hinted that there was always a possibility of a revival of some kind.
So who knows.

I bought one of the bulbs when they sold them many years ago. I received a green one, and believe it to be from my Elliot float (I love Pete's Dragon). Although the paint is flaking something horrible now because it wasn't meant to last that long...

Oh such good memories of the MSEP... When I went to DLR two years ago we were there for 3 nights, and saw the ELP twice. I was in heaven.

I thought Main Street Electrical Parade was in in WDW in the late 80's, early 90's as well?? Someone else posted that it was there from 99'-01', is that correct?

And if I'm totally wrong, what the heck parade am I remembering?

The parade had the big "drum" that said MSEP, played the MSEP music, had the big Elliot float, the Fantasia demon/mountain guy, etc...

It was there in the late 80s and early 90s too; that's my childhood right there.

MSEP had two runs at WDW. The original run was from 1977-1992. Then, it ran again from 1999-2001 while Spectromagic was on a brief hiatus. The parade you saw was the Main Street Electrical Parade.

I hope it is! It is still my favorite parade at Disney all-time. I even bought a couple of the lights off the floats when they closed it for business. It would be great to have it back again!

I know the last time I had seen MSEP was in April 1983 on a band trip. We marched in the parade earlier that day, then went to EPCOT Center the next day.
