Is this necessary to get a good seat?

Last year I was able to get priority seating from Chase for the Go-Go's. Turns out waiting in line was a better option for the best seats. If there is an artist you really want to be in first row or two the best advice I can give is to get in line just as previous show starts. You will be able to see/hear fine and after they clear out audience from present show you will be in great position to score front or second row seats. As far as I know the priority seats are not there but the first section after the bench seats.

Also if you do one of the later sets it's not really needed.

We walked right up to Boys II Men a few years ago at the last show and our seats were fine.

Unless you want to get up close to see them sweat, then you will be able to get a seat to pretty much any of the concerts throughout the day.
