Early December In The Parks

My all time favorite time to go to WDW! Crowd level should be low to moderate most of your trip...it will pick up Saturday the 19th because of schools being out. Your last couple of days will be at the insane crowd level, but up until then it should be wonderful.

December in Florida can be unpredictable, so you will need to pack for both warm and cold weather. On average, you will be comfortable during the day in short sleeves and jeans, and will need a sweater or light jacket most evenings and early mornings.

We've been twice during that time, and have had hot nights, freezing nights, and everything in between! So bring clothes that you can layer.

For our December trips, I mostly packed jeans and short sleeve shirts, one pair of shorts, a couple of lightweight long sleeve t-shirts that could be worn under short sleeve shirts, and a sweatshirt or lightweight jacket with a hood, and mittens.

Since you are from a cooler climate, you might not find it to be too cold. I am from a very warm climate, so I am extra sensitive to cold weather! I did my student teaching in London during the winter back in 1996, and you should have seen the layers I would put on each morning for the walk to my train! I've never worn so many clothes in my life!!

Up until about the 13th, be advised Pop Warner Football is there. Do a search and read the horror stories both in the parks and value hotels. Otherwise, it is a great time to go. I was there Dec. 07 from the 16 until the 24th and there was NO ONE at Disneyworld. The longest wait was 15 minutes). I think you are in for a great treat!!

Also, the weather will be beautiful!!!

Compared to a good old British winter I am sure it will feel remarkably warm!!...But I won't gamble & will take long sleeves too!!....I hope it is fairly quiet after out last 2 visits which were hectic but very enjoyable non the less. We don't stay on site, we hire a villa usually in the Davenport area, we prefer the privacy of our own pool & kitchen etc, just easier when there are 4 adults & 3 kids we think....you can kick back & relax more & its much cheaper!! Plus DH gets all disneyed out otherwise & would possibly never return...unless drugged & dragged (joke)!!! Thanks guys its great to have some sound advice :sohappy:

Have been there 3x during the beginning of December, 2004 and 2005 the park attendance was low and walk-on for most rides. December 2008 there was a free dining campaign, like this coming year and the parks were quite busy. They were busier than the last week of Feb 2008 during traditional spring break for many. I was shocked but still had a good time.
Now, clothing ... I have been in the pool and in shorts and then in winter jackets and gloves - all on the same week trip! Pack for both warm and cool to even cold weather. Layers, layers, layers. Also keep in mind that taking a light pair of knit gloves for everyone is a great idea as they can be very pricey in the parks. What you can buy about 1.50 at the local Walmart can run you over $8.00 a pair in the parks.

We usually go that time of year as well. Crowds at the begining of your trip will be quite low, but the end will be VERY busy! At least it was like that when we were there. We walked into the MK and walked right back out again after seeing how extremely crowded everything was.

Like others have said, bring warm clothes. It may be warm during the day (sometimes) and in the 30's at night. We are from Maine and used to cold weather, but still dressed in layers and brought our winter jackets and mittens. You could even rent a locker to put extra clothes in. May be costly, but totally worth it if you can bring your own things and not have to spend money buying sweatshirts, hats and gloves. Plus we were there one time and they sold out of gloves! I couldn't believe it!

How bad are the pop warner kids and the crowds they cause in the parks, im going from the 5-12 and staying at the poly.

Pop Warner does not have a bad effect on the parks. They mainly affect people who are staying in the Value resorts because they run wild all over the resort and act foolishly on the buses. We've been to WDW twice during Pop Warner and hardly even noticed them in the parks.

In fact, some of the lowest numbers for the month of December on the touringplans.com crowd prediction calendar are during Pop Warner week.

Happy Mom hit it on the head. We went in December a couple years ago and we only had fleeces or windbreakers for the evenings. Days were in the low 70 deg F (what's that in Celcius....minus 32...times five....divide by nine...ok 21 deg C.) so very comfortable. Crowds were light. Make sure you do MVMCP at least once to see the 'snow' on main street. Visit other resorts to see the Christmas decor and the giant gingerbread house at the GF.

As others have said it is a wonderful time of year to go! The weather can definately run the gamit. When we went there was one day where we were in shorts and t-shirts and sweating and by the time the night came we had long pants and sweatshirts on and could see our breath! lol

I am hoping to go again at that time of year again real soon.

This will be my 3rd year in a row going at that time - I just love Disneyworld at Christmas! The last 2 years, the crowds weren't too bad until that Saturday just before Christmas. That was our last morning in the parks, and both times, by the time we were leaving at noon, it was wall to wall people in the MK. Going a week earlier this year, so I'll something to compare.

Thanks guys....am really appreciative of the feedback....think we'll go for a late summer/early winter wardrobe...& buy mittens etc as & when we may need them...they will sure come in use when we land back in Manchester on 23rd Dec at 7.30am...ouch :hammer:Also we really want to take the kids to see MVMCP...even though we generally get snow in the Winter it would be magical to see it fall in MK...ooooh can't wait!!! :sohappy:
