Yes..you can...but it all depends on the program you are using..and the method you are using to decode the DVD data into visual "on screen" onverlays..

Basically..either get PowerDVD or WinDVD (both are about 30 bucks or less)....they have a "screen capture" button...

HOWEVER...you MUST make sure you are using SOFTWARE decompression instead of HARDWARE..because if you are using hardware..all you will get is a purple "square" wherever the DVD image would normally be due to the fact that its an overlay effect and not really an "on screen" image...

Make sence? i hope so ;)

Decompression? do you mean encoder? Because my dvd rom is hardware encoded.

I happen to own an ATI TV Wonder USB thingy and it has S-Video and composite audio cables. The included software has built in "capture" features that can take high quality pixx when you plug everything in. Its really great...about $100 USD

LOL, well the ATI PCI cards are good, I just got one (along with 2 USB 2.0 and 2 IEEE cards). I used it to capture each frame from the Avril Lavigine video Skater Boy.

I occasionally use my ATI Radeon 64DDR for video capture, but the first problem I had was Macrovision protection on videos I legally own that I wanted to grab scenes from. If you search for disabling Macrovision online for your vid card, you should get some hits. I am pretty sure ATI doesn't circumvent Macrovision in any of their products, but if you look hard enough, you can find hacked drivers or patches to disable the Macrovision. It is your legal right to back up videos you own under the fair use law, so don't sweat it.
