DVC wait list question

I'm hoping someone here will be able to help with this. My parents are DVC members and have booked a stay for DH and I for late November / early December at their home resort (SSR). We tried for BCV, but a room was not available for one night of our stay. Rather than splitting our time between 2 resorts, we opted to book SSR for the entire stay, and asked to be put on a wait list for BCV. My mom called this morning to check on our wait list status, and was told that we can't request to be put on a wait list for any non-home resort until Oct 24th. This doesn't make any sense to me, because we can book BCV for all but one of the nights, so I don't understand why they won't wait list us until 6 weeks before our stay. Has anyone heard of this? My understanding was that once the 7 month window opened for a non-home resort anyone can make reservations and/or be put on a wait list. Is this incorrect? Thanks for any help!!!

Maybe MS misundestood the dates? You can waitlist as soon as you can book. I would call back and try again. If you get the same answer, ask for an explanation. Maybe it has something to do with having two reservations at once?

From the Vacation Planning section of the mydvc.com website (members only):

Wait List
Find out the policies and procedures for requesting alternate vacation choices

If you are unable to secure the reservations you want, rest assured that you do have options. The key is to have alternate choices selected when you contact Member Services. Being flexible with alternate dates, resorts and/or accommodations can assist you in your effort to secure a reservation. However, if you need a specific reservation that is unavailable, you can ask to be placed on a waiting list.

What you need to know about the wait list for Disney Vacation Club Resorts::

  • Your request will remain on the wait list for up to 31 days before your arrival date. To keep your name on the wait list beyond that time, contact Member Services 32 days prior to arrival.
  • There is no wait list within seven days of your arrival date.
  • If your wait list request becomes available, Member Services will automatically confirm the reservation and mail a confirmation to you.
  • You do not need to contact Member Services once your request is placed on the wait list.
  • All other wait list requests and previously confirmed reservations for comparable dates will be cancelled when a wait list is confirmed. Additionally, you will not be contacted prior to a wait list being confirmed and a confirmation letter being mailed to you.

" As a courtesy to other Members, please contact Member Services if you no longer wish to be on the wait list.
Tip: For a better chance of securing your vacation plans when you call Member Services, have second and third choices in mind. Since being on the wait list does not guarantee you a vacation spot, consider whether you can alter your arrival or departure dates or use different accommodations, among other things.
