Hi all, just wanted to c if I can get as much info as I can on this, I live in Northern Ireland and my family and love Disney! We have been a couple of times, and rented points last yr at the AKL which was amazing! I have been looking into buying resale but I would like to get the views and feedback from UK DVC owners if possible! I would be looking to finance it but I'm being told I would have to have an American bank acc! Any replies would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Heading for the great escape.
bought direct, used Disney finance to do sale, paid off straight away from UK bank. If you need to finance better to borrow in UK as the rate changes wont affect your costs.
Wouldnt touch it with a barge pole now however. Its a bind the annual dues have risen massively as the pound is worth 30% less than when we joined, the resorts are manky and tired. More bang for your money elsewere.

If you can't buy outright I'd say its probably not good value for money, also its hard to get UK travel insurance to cover you for cancelling if the worst should happen. You could probably get the flights covered but not much else. Mainly because you haven't actually "paid" for anything else, as you already own the timeshare its not considered a holiday specific cost. You could end up losing points particularly if you have done a bank of points that then have to be spent in that year, often the case for UK owners.

From the UK I'd say renting points is the best bet.

I brought into DVC after my parents brought direct with Disney years n years ago. They brought into Disneys Beach Club villas and it was so very very simple. I recently also brought into DVC at Disneys Boardwalk - but through resale - it was very very easy and actually everything was done via email. I was lucky enough to get 250 points there in 2012 (30th birthday pressure to myself) I would never look back!

It depends on what you want from your points, how many and also don't forget your annual dues! If your going to be coming each year - or every 2 years, or maybe thinking of banking your points and exchanging for RCI destinations etc then buy in. If your not going to come that oftern then do rent someone else's points. My friends come with us and they have rented points through 'Davids Rentals' but I'm sure there are other dvc point rental company's that offer the same service - this is just one I have experience of.

I brought my DVC from a couple in America that were not using it anymore so felt sale was best - I brought through resalesDVC.com which actually was a total breeze!! You can also sign up for weekly listings via email. So you receive notification of points that are up for sale - currently Boardwalk are selling at approx $100 a point. For us Disney fanatics in the UK - it's unlikely we travel n stay for just a couple of days or a week - it's more usual to be there for 14-21 days so you will need around 250 points to make it easy for your trips each year/2years. Obviously you would need to do a bit of research into the points needed for average stays.

Hope that helps!! There's never been anything wrong with my stays - so insurance wise you would have to weight that up yourself, plus ensure your correct when you book.
