DVC referral bonuses

I just bought into the DVC this past June. I just got a mailer that says if you refer a friend and they buy into the DVC then you get bonuses (cash, or money off your maintence, or money off more points)

One question, one request

The question, is this something new, or has this been part of DVC for quite some time?

The request - and not its not for me. Its for anybody who may be buying into the DVC. I would say, if you have a friend who is in the DVC or maybe someone has helped you out, let them know you are buying into it so you can refer them. You have to give the sales agent your friends name BEFORE you sign any papers.

It has been there for as long as I know. We actually gave some "strangers" name when we bought into it. :) It was someone we talked to at the airport in Chicago when we're about to embark on another of our Disney trip and planning on taking the DVC tour. We saw her DVC bag and decided to ask her about. She was very pleasant and gave us quite a lot of info. At the end, she gave us a business card and jokingly told us to tell the DVC folks that she recommended us.

Little did she knew that we had done enough of our homework that after looking over all the costs with the DVC rep. we bought on the spot. So I'm not sure what she actually got, or even if she remembered us, but I hope she got something for helping us out.

Actually, and I don't know if this is a good idea or not (I can't judge these things when I'm typing them at 4:45 in the morning), how come we don't have some place here whereby someone who's about to buy into the DVC can use one of our names as a referral. I mean, if someone actually got some help from one of us here, and the person doesn't actually have anyone else to credit as a referral, why not one of us? Might as well use the available opportunity to give someone a credit, no?

Yep, thats my question.

I talked to a few people in the parks before I bought the DVC, I did the tour and then walked around with the info packet and a number of people talked to me. I was also talking about it on line for Nemo and someone overheard me and talked to me about their experence.

I would have gladly "dropped their name" when I signed up, if only they had asked me to.

I also looked at a few websites - including here. If I had known about the program, I would have supplied a name when I bought in.

I don't have the stuff in front of me, but depending on how many referrals you generate you can get up $1,000 - either in Disney Dollars, Credit towards your maintence fee, credit towards an additional points purchase, or I think just as cash.
