DVC Point Request Question

We are thinking of going the point route for our Jan trip. We typically stay at CSR, but with construction and the Jan discounts the last few years, we think our cost will be about the same with points. We will likely request AKL with OKW as back-up. Since we're not terribly far out, I know there is a chance we may end up with OKW. My concern is getting a refurbished room. I love the photos of the redone studios, but there are some older pics that look hideous. A consultant at Davids said we could request the refurb room and with the lower demand at OKW have a good shot of getting it this far out. Has anyone else had success/disappointment in requesting an refurbished room? When it comes to the older rooms, there are other resorts that I would pick to stay at instead. I'm just worried about being locked in and then really disappointed. Should I just take the chance? Thanks in advance for the advice!
