DVC Negatives?

We are looking at buying into the DVC (hopefully soon!) and I've read a lot of posts here and it sounds like its a wonderful thing. I'm just wondering if anyone has had any bad experiences with it from a not living up to your expectations point of view.

Thanks!

members since 1999. My only negative is sometrimes it is difficult getting the resort/accomadations you desire during busier times because of the 7 month window at non-home resort.

I went to their tour thingy-do that they do the last time I was there. It sounded like a really good idea at the time, but once I started crunching numbers it started to sound less and less attractive to me and I wound up talking myself out of it while he gave a moment to "come up with any questions..".

Maybe it works for some folks, but I usually go to Disney with a budget in mind and figured that I could actually go for cheaper than what they were offering. Maybe for a larger family it would be good, but for two people....I can go for a lot less than even their cheapest offering.

Chances are I'll reconsider in the future, but I think it may also depend on the size of your family, etc.

From a purely budgetary viewpoint, DVC is not as cheap as staying in Value resorts. Generally, if you prefer higher-end accommodations and would normally stay in Moderates or Deluxe for a week once a year or more, DVC can be a good investment. There is also the question of commitment, with DVC [as with any timeshare] you're committing to a certain level of usage over the long term. If your finances are not fairly stable, you could find yourself missing the window for your points usage if you hit a slow period and can't afford the trip in a given year.

I think for a person who is relatively stable financially and enjoys the Moderate or better accommodations, it's a great choice.

For us, this has been the closest thing to a negative that we have experienced. We've always been able to find something - sometimes it just requires a bit of flexibility.

i agree with this really being the only negative.

the first time we went after becoming members we stayed in a 2 bdrm villa at WL. When you first sign up, unless you've had the luxury to stay in villa prior, you have really only seen the model rooms. but when we went we took 6 other people and the size and quality of the rooms totally pays off.

i agree that every person has to make their own individual choice. for us it made sense. since we go down every year, sometimes twice it made fianacial sense for us. plus, our vacations are pretty much our priority. we save all year so that when we go on vacay we don't have to worry about how much were spending. and since we pay off our accomodations every month, most money we're saving is for spending.

good luck and congrats and soon becoming a dvc member.
