DVC members: Question

I'm about to book for the first time through DVC. I will be staying in a 2 BR. I'm planning on using points on Sun - Thurs and paying for the Fri night.

Do any DVC members have experience with getting rate discounts when paying for extra nights? Or are just the usual discounts applicable? ie. codes, annual passholder, etc?

We are new DVC members and I was wondering the same thing. The one thing I don't like the amount of points you need at least doubles on Friday and Sat night.

We had considered moving to PO for the weekend, but too much work with a baby.

as far as i know DVC members don't get any special discounts when it comes to paying for extra nights...i wish we did, but we don't. my guess is that only the usual discounts are applicable. though we've never had to pay for an extra night...yet...so i'm not 100% sure on it. best thing to do is call and ask, if you haven't already.

the bad thing with DVC is that they can't always book you in the same resort for your stay. for example, our first DVC trip...we had to stay at Boardwalk our first night, load up the next morning, and go to Old Key West for the remainder of our stay. another example, for our upcoming trip, EVERYTHING (every standard room, at least) was book..except for Beach Club (which was fortunate, since i wanted to stay there anyway) BUT they couldn't fit us in for every day...we were gonna have to switch to Dixie Landings right in the middle of our stay, then switch back to Beach Club. it was ridiculous! but they put us on a waiting list for the couple of nights we were staying in DL, and eventually it worked out that we can stay at Beach Club for our entire trip. so everything worked out fine...but still...i liked it a lot better when i wasn't a DVC member...but that's just me!

Phreek,

How far in advance did you make those reservations -- where you had to switch rooms?

We have 5 kids. It would be impossible for us to switch around like that. We'd just have to make the reservations for another time.

Book as soon as you are able to. If you home resort you can book 10 months out and at others it is 7 months out. We have paid for extra nights but I do not believe we got any discount on the room over what a non member would pay. Hope it helps.
