Does anyone know if the DVC Member Standard Dining Plan the same as the Disney Dining Plan us regular people can purchase?

Yes, it's exactly the same dining plan (for all 3 tiers), costs the same and works the same way.

The only distinction of which I'm aware (and it's an important one for those to whom it applies) is that if a "free dining" promotion comes out, anyone staying in DVC accommodations on points won't be eligible and can't take advantage of it. If you're staying in a DVC villa on points (yours, or rented) and want the dining plan, you have to pay for it even if a promotion is going on.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
Yes as others have stated all 3 dining plans are the exact same if purchased by DVC members, passholders, and regular guests. The same prices as well for all dining plans offered. :)

And to add to what others have said, you have up until 48 hours before your check-in date to purchase the DDP. But if you are renting points from a DVC member, that member would have to purchase the plan for you, I believe. If you are renting points through a third party vendor, like Dave's Vacation Club Rentals, I'm not sure how that would work since he purchases points from members and then rents them to others.

We've done that (rented through David's) -- you just let them know you want the DDP and they'll arrange to have the member from whom you are renting set it up for you. You do have to provide a credit card number (which David's will forward to the member to use in paying for the dining plan when they book it), although if you're not comfortable giving it to a stranger because you think they might engage in some sort of credit card fraud, David's suggests using gift cards in the proper amount instead. We used our credit card and had no problems.

I've got only 10 points left for next use year - 2016. If I want to stay on points, I might have to rent some from Dave, once I've purchased the extra 24 points. I wonder how many DVC members end up renting points from other DVC members because they've used up all their current year points, borrowed all their next year's points and purchase the 24 points extra? lol We're going on the members only cruise this August and it ate up the rest of this year's points and a chunk of next year's points.

Dave's does not "purchase" points from members. That would be illegal. DVC members let him know that they have so many points to rent, what their home resort is, and when their Use Year is (so he knows when the points expire). He matches that up with people wanting to rent, and he handles all of the paperwork between the parties. The DVC member still has to do everything for the reservation, including paying for the dining plan. No other person other than the owner can even talk to Member Services, so you are really at the mercy of the owner. If the member decided to cancel the reservation, refund the money, and use the points themselves, there really isn't much a person can do legally, and they are out that reservation. Disney won't help them at all, since they discourage renting anyway, and will still only talk to the owner.

Whatver - the DVC member gets paid by Dave for their points, not the prospective guest - paid by Dave via a Paypal account once he collects funds from the prospective guest. And according to his website, he takes $4/point fee. But the guest pays him and he pays me.

So perhaps, technically, he doesn't "buy" points from DVC owners. But I could rent points myself.
