DVC at Poly?

Is it possible for the Vacation Club to begin some form of operation at the Polynesian?

I just returned from a week at Disney -- (Trying to form some sort of a 'Trip Report') -- while visiting the Poly one morning we passed a small group of people who were sporting suits and small Disney ID's. Several members in the group wore DVC "Planning Team" polo's. They were taking lots of notes.

Does this mean anything?

If a DVC area was opened at Poly, would you stay there? Where would it go, in a new building, or in a refurbed older building?

I know it will probably never happen because there does not appear to be enough room at the Poly & (Because I would like it to) & because there are other projects like Saratoga Springs already in the works....But anyway...What do you think?

I hope it just doesn't happen....

IMHO it's starting to feel like the WDW resort area as a whole is trying to go timeshare.

Whatever will happen to the guests that don't want to buy in? :veryconfu

I don't think the Polynesian will become a timeshare area. Just not enough room. I also don't think it would happen because of the ammenities of the resort. If I was staying at the Wilderness Lodge Villas I would be ed to know that people who bought later get to stay at the Polynesian and get to use the monorail and such. If you haven't noticed, they have been trying to keep the DVC resorts on the same ammenity scale. All resorts have Boat transportation and bus transportation. They all have marinas. And I'm sure there are a few I'm missing. I don't see the Polynesian becoming an area for DVC...especially since the rumored DVC resort is supposed to be built practically right across the street from the Polynesian. Anyone remember the Eagle Pines Resort rumor? Well it is still there and still very much alive. They are waiting for the Saratoga Springs resort to open to announce more on that.

This is just a guess, but I suspect that they were looking to see why people LOVE the polynesian so much; I suspect that, after Eagle Pines, the next DVC resort will be south-seas themed.

By the way, DVC members may stay at the Polynesian for points. We did this once and got an awesome view of the castle!

I wouldn't see them putting in a south seas theme unless they attach it to the polynesian itself. Disney wouldn't reuse themes.

I also thought of another reason why this wouldn't work. The Polynesian could not handle the extra people. The pool are and food court area are small enough as it is. Could you imagine crammin the DVC people in to the resort.

I agree with you DisneyInsider, but one note. Do you know that regardless of which DVC property you bought at, you can still stay at any DVC property? I'm guessing you do know and were just making the point that it would be bad policy to have unequal DVC resort amenities, but I just wanted to mention it just in case. (I have known other members of DVC that didn't realize they could stay at any DVC resort.)

I knew...just like you said though. I don't think it would be fair for one DVC resort to have much better amenities than the other. If they did this people who have the Polynesian as their home resort, might start to get mad that they can't get in to the resort. And Vice Versa since you can book your home resort earlier than the others...other DVC members might get mad that they can't get in to the Polynesian becuase the home resort folks are booking it to get the better ammenities.

Like I said I don't think it will be happening. I actually don't think there are really any more resorts that would be able to cater to DVC members. I think they are going to have to build new DVC resorts and not expand the others to include DVC. There are only a few resorts that haven't gotten DVC expansions. Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and Contemporary don't have it. And you know why I think they didn't do this. AKL is the only other deluxe to not have DVC accomodations. If they ever make some other kind of transportation (EX: Boat to AK)...then I would expect this to be the only other resort to become a DVC resort. They have the room, the theme, big enough pool and restaurant area for the extra people. But right now the transportation issue might be holding it back. Right now though I don't think they are going to expand in to any other resorts. Not until Saratoga Springs is opened, and the Eagle Pines idea gets finalized. If Eagle Pines falls through (which it may, since it was supposed to be completed in 2004 and there is still no construction going on) then that would be the only time I would expect to see an expansion in a deluxe resort to include DVC area.

Another note...

Like I said before, I don't think Eagle Pines will be a reality. At least not for a little while. With no construction having begun it is obvious that the resort won't be around for 2004. Then, if you remember Disney was trying to get a more relaxed feel out of this resort. More mellow pools...more grown-up if you want to call it that. They are doing this same exact thing with Saratoga Springs. It will be a more adult type of resort. More laid back in the country club style.

Ummm... There is NO land available in that general area. Across the street from the Polynesian is the MK Parking lot... to one side is the TTC, and to the other side is Shades of Green.

Since DVC members can use their points to stay at the Poly, maybe it had to do with DVC Members using the Poly....maybe nothing more than that or maybe they were using a meeting room there for a regular meeting.

I didn't mean right across the street, but it is in that general area. The Eagle Pines golf course is near the Polynesian.

Not really... It'd be more closer to Fort Wilderness or Riverside...
