I attended the DVC Annual Meeting yesterday. Highlights:

  • Grand Floridian announced! Opening end of 2013.
  • On-line booking starts gradually beginning Jan 19
  • DVC members will be able to purchase Tables in Wonderland without an AP
  • More TV channels including FOX News
  • Point reallocations are coming again in 2013
  • Vacation planner being mailed now – handed out at meeting
  • Will be able to use points to book the Grand Californian hotel again

I snapped a couple shots of the construction site for the new DVC at the Grand Floridian as I rode by today on the monorail. These are just thumbnails – click on them to see the larger photo.

Glad to see that we finally have a firm date on the beginning of online reservations as opposed to just coming soon as they have said for years. Will make searching for rooms much easier now. And while I know it won't happen, it should theoretically lower dues since you shouldn't need as many people staffing phones.

That right there in bold is an AWESOME perk.

Thanks Mike

I apologize for not making that clear. Yes, I was referring to the Grand Floridian Resort. It's a shame there is no way you can walk to the Magic Kingdom from there. Personally one of the perks I enjoy when staying either at the beach club or the Boardwalk is the opportunity to walk to Epcot or Hollywood Studios.

I agree with you 100%--love walking to Epcot or DHS from BW or BCV. In fact, one time I took my mom to WDW, we had reservations for tea at the Grand Floridian, and thankfully we had plenty of time, because we set off from MK to walk to the GF, and then the walkway ran out...we couldn't cross the water and had to walk back to MK to get the monorail.

Being able to walk to MK from GF would be a fantastic perk, along the lines of walking into Epcot from BW or BC.

It would have to be one of those bridges they could raise and lower, though. The water pageant boats go through there and are kind of tall. I believe this is why they never finished the walkway in the first place.

I always thought the water pageant simply turned their lights off and headed back the way it came.
