Dungeons and Dragons: Why Can't Disney Make Movies Like This?

Disney has made plenty of original movies recently: Soul, Onward, Luca, Turning Red, Strange World, Raya and the Last Dragon. With the exception of Strange World, I think all of these movies were as good or better than Dungeons and Dragons.

i haven’t watched it yet, & thought it looked like a total failure after seeing the trailers. i was generally surprised when i started seeing all the positive reviews. i’ll get around to it eventually.

I saw Dungeons and Dragons this weekend. It was such a great movie! Why can't Disney make great original movies again like Cars, Saving Mr. Banks, the original Toy Story etc!
This decade so far:
- Onward
- The One and Only Ivan
- Raya and the Last Dragon
- Soul
- Luca
- Turning Red
- Encanto

This is only counting films released in the theater or was made for the theater.

Also if you mean not a remake nor a sequel then we can include:
- Jungle Cruise
- Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings

If we count 20th Century since Disney’s acquisition:
- Free Guy

That’s just the big tentpoles in theaters, there have been countless of other original films that have been good to phenomenal such as Prey, See How They Run, Godmothered, Nightmare Alley, etc.

Some other upcoming originals include:
- Elemental
- Wish
- Elio

Of course there’s still plenty to be announced and we have no way of knowing what the studio puts out

Out of all those, I thought Onward and Jungle Cruise were alright. I thought Free Guy was kind of lacking as a movie. Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively did stay at my brother's house for their honeymoon (not telling you where that is of course!) It was pretty incognito for them! I had hopes for Shang-Chi but it kind of lost its luster partway through the movie.

Was so wonderful visiting Alnwick Castle in Scotland years ago where they filmed Dungeons and Dragons. Lots of CGI in the movie though! They also filmed Harry Potter there also. The Quidditch scenes there also and Chamber of Secrets also!

Hate to break it to you but Honor Among Thieves is not an original story, it’s pulled from the Forgotten Realm campaign which has been played by D&D players for decades.

That is wonderful that took part of a game that had been played for decades and incorporated it into a movie. I never really wasn't into D&D as a child, but heard it was a lot of fun to play.

I read that they were filming the new Indiana Jones movie at a nearby castle at the same time that they were filming this movie. The trailer for that new movie looks pretty good.
