My ds is 8 1/2. We are fortunate to live in beautiful sunny FL and have been taking him to WDW since he was 5 months old. Lately, he seems less than thrilled when we mention WDW, as all he thinks of is Universal. Does anyone else feel my pain? Am I going to have to wait til i'm a grandma before I get the child wonderment back? DH and I still have it:p. Any advice?

No harm in mixing in some Universal with your WDW [if it's in the budget].

My 15-yo son is more than happy to stick with Disney. I've been taking him since he was 5 and he's still got the bug. :king: But we did to Universal to experience WWOHP and enjoyed it. We came to the conclusion that we still much prefer WDW. Had he thought otherwise, I would have happily started planning more Universal into our Disney trips [I would never switch entirely ].

My advise is simple: Don't discount what he wants or he'll be miserable, but don't forego what you want either. Present a comfortable mix of the two as a compromise. Most kids will be happy with that.

If it isn't financially viable at all to do both, you'll have to decide as a family which is more important for your family as a whole. Hopefully whichever way you decide it won't be about winners or losers, but about what's best.

We went through this when we moved to FL...everyone suddenly wanted nothing but Universal...I, on the other hand, was mixed. There are two ways that I know of that you could approach this...the first is to just devote time to both making sure to plan special things for him on days when you do Disney to help keep the magic alive. The other way you could approach this is forgo Disney trips for awhile . If you go to Universal enough and skip Disney for some time- that eventual return trip to any of the Disney parks usually makes the superior attention to detail, quality and overall magic return. I'm sure someone has some other genius idea- but this was what worked for us and some others we knew after moving to FL. It's just tough when you live in FL.

Has he read Kingdom Keepers? or the Hidden Mickey books?
My DS9 enjoys finding the hidden stuff & seeing stuff from the books more than any attraction.

I think eventually he will get enough of the"big rides" and want to go back "home". Maybe we can let him bring a friend! that will be a whole new experience:king:
