Driving to Mickey's Jingle Jungle 5K

I've signed up to do my first race ever, and I picked the Jingle Jungle 5K. I live locally, and am debating about whether to stay on property or just drive over the morning of the race? I literally live 8 miles from the Animal Kingdom, so it seems silly to spend money on a hotel room, but having never done a Disney race before, I'm not sure about my options.

I have signed up to do the same race and it will be my first race ever too! I can't help re the transport question as we are travelling from the UK and staying for 15 nights in a Disney hotel but I wanted to wish you luck. May see you there amongst the thousands.

You can definitely drive yourself over. The race packet/final race instructions will tell you where to park for the race. For instance, the Happy Haunted 5k Trail Run (ToT Weekend) provides the following info
Non-Host Resorts & Driving Directions
Race Transportation is only provided to and from the Host Resorts. Guests not staying at a host resort will need to provide their own transportation to ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex for all events. Parking is free at ESPN Wide World of Sports for participants and spectators.
Directions to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex for the Expo, 5K and Kids Races
Take I-4 to exit 65 (Osceola Parkway West). Take a left onto Victory Way and park in the main lot. Proceed on foot to the main entrance.
Most likely it would just be at the AKL parking lot, but sometimes they make you park elsewhere and take a bus over. Just pay attention to the directions and you will be fine.
