Driving THROUGH Orlando

I know that I-4 is in the midst of a major overhaul and won't be finished until 2021. So I am directing this to anyone who is more local than a tourist driving through.

What is I-4 REALLY like to try to navigate in the morning with the construction? We will be driving and I just want a little heads up of what to expect. According to our plans, we should be going through Orlando around 8amish. If you can suggest an alternate route to take to get to Lake Buena Vista that would be better, please don't hold back! Any suggestions on different routes are welcomed! Thanks!

We made the drive last weekend. Friday at 8am was fine. We slowed to a crawl momentarilly, but it picked right back up.

We came down i-95 and really the worst part of driving through jacksonville. Narrow roads and curvy, we still go straight through and do not take the bypass. I would stick to i-4.

If you are driving in traffic you pretty much have to speed in the cities, everyone flies.

Drove in rush hour traffic on I-4 this past Monday and Tuesday.
No big deal at all, even through the construction zones.

At least, no big deal compared to what I deal with on a daily basis here in Nashville...

No tolls, either, using Google maps to get from Property to Busch Gardens, SeaWorld, and Legoland.

All the same, I never travel to Orlando without a big baggy of quarters, just in case

Thanks guys! It doesn't seem as bad as The Sentinel makes it sound! We will be driving from PA using 95 then to I-4 at Daytona Beach, but seeing as our trip isn't until 2017, so MAYBE a lot of the MAJOR construction will be done!!?? Yeah right...but a man can always have HOPE! LOL

I assume you're coming from Daytona Beach? If so, take SR 417 around Orlando. Its a tolled road but its a direct shot to property.

This. Even without bad traffic, SR 417 is going to be smooth sailing.

No tolls, either, using Google maps to get from Property to Busch Gardens, SeaWorld, and Legoland.

The construction really starts just north of Universal Orlando Resort. It is more an issue getting to the attractions area than it is getting between the attractions themselves.

It's mostly OK for tourists, but for locals some of the ramps that close and such are horrible especially when they have to create new ramps and stop lights!
