Driving from Vero Beach to SSR - tips?

Hi Peeps,

Just 6.5 weeks before our holiday in sunny Florida.:sohappy:

I was wondering if anybody has any driving experience from Vero Beach to SSR. I think we have 3 main options:

1) Take the 95 then join the B-Line (simplest but longest?)
2) Take the 60 west to the Florida Turnpike then pick up the 192 and cut up through Kissimmee.
3) Take the 95 to Melbourne then pick up the 192 (however the 192 I believe is mainly single carriageway and hence it could be a slow journey).

Does anybody have any experience on these routes or suggest a suitable alternative?

Many thanks.

We've done #1. When I don't know the area as well, I like to go with the simplest route. Then Mrs.PhD thinks I know what I'm doing.

Locals would have better advice for what to do once you hit Orlando proper as B-Line and I4 can get pretty congested depending on time of day and week.

Go with option one. While it is a longer route it is all 60-70 mph highway with a few toll stops on the Bee line and will get you there much quicker with a lower chance of getting held up in traffic or lost.

Many thanks for the replies. It looks as if I'll be doing No/1. We'll be travelling from VB to SSR on a Saturday morning. Does anyone know whether there are any major roadworks I'll have to contend with?

we did number 2 when we went on our last trip, it was easy and took a lot less time. i would say leave early to avoid traffic. we left at 6 had breakfast, and then we hit the road

I live here in Orlando and we often head out to the Vero Beach Resort. I say take option 1 or 2. Option 3 will kill you with the traffic and the red lights on 192 trying to get through Kissimmee.

I would do option 1, if traffic on 95 and the B line are both moving, if not, take the turnpike, though with doing this, you kind of backtrack to get to the Turnpike. It takes us an average of 1 1/2 hours for option 1 if we don't have to stop and all roads are moving!

While you're here in Otown, you can call 511 on your cell and get live traffic reports, doesn't cost anything extra than your normal minutes of use.

Good luck! Have fun!
