Pre-Trip Dreams Do Come True... May 2017 Pre-Trip

***Our plans have changed around a few times since this first post! Changes are in red.***

Well hello there friends! While I've been reading and loving all your trip reports, I'm finally back to tell you about a new trip of my own .

WHO:
My name is Ashton. Just your fellow Disney addict with a slight coffee obsession (particularly the Dunkin' Donuts variety).

Here I am two Halloweens ago, trying to bring some Disney spirit to my office:

Mary Poppins.JPG

My traveling buddy is my husband Jonathan, J for short. Here we are riding the TTA on our trip from this past July:

FullSizeRender.jpg

I have a full trip report from our August 2015 trip and a pre-trip from our short, two day trip in July 2016 if you'd like to check those out. Unfortunately my phone bit the dust shortly after our July trip, before I had a chance to upload any of our pictures to my computer, so I wasn't able to complete a trip report for that one :(.

WHY:
2017 was supposed to be the year of no Disney. Actually, it was supposed to be the year of no big trips at all as we have some financial goals we're working really hard towards. Of course, not going to Disney bummed me out but I was trying really hard to look at the big picture.

Then, halfway through January, I hear about a charity raffle where one of the prizes is two sets of 5 Day Park Hopper passes. Being that it was for a good cause I decided to enter, hoping but never really thinking I would win. Well there must have been some pixie dust floating my way because wouldn't you know it - I WON THE TICKETS!!! :jawdrop::D

I literally called J freaking out. I'm pretty sure I was in shock - I kept saying "Did I really win?" over and over again.

It is not my intention to brag - I am just incredibly thankful and grateful!

With such a big part of the cost taken care of, we just couldn't pass up taking a trip. I'M GOING BACK TO DISNEY!!! :inlove:

WHEN:
May 13th, 2017 - May 20th, 2017

Our last two trips have been in July and August and while we definitely made them work and had a great time, I really didn't want to go in the dead of summer again. The fall/winter is also tricky for us so May seemed like as good a time as any.

Plus, I'm really excited we'll be there for the Flower and Garden festival since the pictures I've seen of EPCOT are beautiful! I'm also hoping it won't be quite as painfully hot and maybe not quite as rainy but it's Florida so who knows.

Also, we'll be gone during Mother's Day weekend which bums me out a little bit but both our Mom's are so excited for us to go and told us it's totally fine. We are going to make sure to celebrate with them both before we leave.

WHERE:
May 13th-17th : Walt Disney World Swan
May 17th-20th: Carribean Beach (Originally Wilderness Lodge)

I CANNOT BELIEVE WE'RE STAYING THIS CLOSE TO EPCOT/HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS AND MAGIC KINGDOM IN MY FIRST DELUXE ALL IN ONE TRIP!!!!
**Lol there's always next time right?**

Can you tell I'm a little excited? :hilarious:

I seriously cannot put into words how magical this trip has become. Shortly after I won the tickets, we were all set and ready to book All Start Music as it was the only Value available for our dates at the time and again, we were trying to make sure it was reasonably priced. Then, J's dad asked if there were any Starwood hotels on property because he had a bunch of points built up that he wasn't planning on using and offered them to us if we wanted them.

Well of course being crazy Disney lover I am and planning random trips in my head all the time, I knew the Swan and Dolphin are in the Starwood group. A few hours later, J's dad let us know the Swan had availability for our requested dates and he had enough points for 4 nights if we wanted to use them.

I was over the moon. I asked several times if he was sure he wanted us to use them as I didn't want to take them if he thought there was even a small chance he might use them, but he assured me he really did want us to have them - we just needed to pay the resort & parking fee and we'd be squared away.

At first, we were just going to pay out of pocket at the Swan for the remaining two nights but I decided to check the other resort prices just in case. I knew we didn't want to go from the Swan to ASM and since we had even more room in the budget, we decided to go with a moderate.

THEN, I saw the Wilderness Lodge was priced only a little bit higher than POR (our original choice) so how could we say no to that?!?

Just like that it was booked! Now here I am pinching myself that we'll be able to spend part of our trip so close to the Boardwalk and EPCOT (J's favorite park) and part of our trip close to MK (my favorite park) and at one of my dream resorts!
I know the Wilderness Lodge is still going through construction but I honestly don't care - I'm excited anyway!!!

If you made it this far I appreciate you reading all my rambling ;).

So here were are folks, I went from not having any Disney plans for the foreseeable future to now being in double digits in our countdown. Dreams really do come true :inlove:.

ADRs and daily plans!

Now time for the fun part - ADRs! J's only requests were that we eat at Via Napoli twice (he loves it!) and 'Ohana so I tried to make sure we could fit those in. As much as I wish he loved going to WDW as much as I do, the big draw for him is the food so I do what I can to make him happy ;).

Saturday, May 13th [TRAVEL DAY]
-Dinner ADR @ Yachtsman Steakhouse

Sunday, May 14th [MAGIC KINGDOM]
-Lunch ADR @ Be Our Guest (I dream about that French Onion Soup! :hungry:)
-QS Dinner // Probably either Columbia Harbor House or Casey's

Monday, May 15th [HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS // EPCOT - WORLD SHOWCASE]
-Flower & Garden Booths or QS Lunch @ Tangeriene Cafe
-Dinner ADR @ Via Napoli

Tuesday, May 16th [EPCOT - FUTURE WORLD // ANIMAL KINGDOM]
-Lunch ADR @ Rose & Crown
-Dinner ADR @ Yak & Yeti

Wednesday, May 17th [ANIMAL KINGDOM // MAGIC KINGDOM]
-Lunch ADR @ Sanaa
-Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian

Thursday, May 18th [EPCOT // HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS]
-Lunch ADR @ Via Napoli
-Dinner ADR @ 'Ohana

Friday, May 19th [DEPARTURE DAY ]
-Breakfast ADR @ Whispering Canyon Cafe

We're doing a lot of park hopping, but with being so close to EPCOT we wan't to make sure we take advantage!

So that's it for now - 36 more days until I can pick out FP+! :)

I am following along.
Great news on the tickets
Glad you could book the deluxe

Looking forward to more details

And I love your Mary Poppins costume!!

Max

Thank you so much! We are super excited - now it's just the hard part of counting down the days!

Really enjoying your trip report as well :).

That's so awesome!! I'm so excited for you! :D Everything just seems to keep falling into place to make this the most magical trip yet!

I also dream about BOG French Onion Soup. :hungry:

Thank you!! It's like a dream, I'm just so ready to go!

I had to stalk the app for a week to get that reservation but I am so glad I did! I couldn't be at Disney for a week and miss out on that soup. I might have a problem :hilarious:.

SO MUCH IS HAPPENING!!!

Seriously, these last two days have me rethinking all ours plans!

We're missing the opening of Pandora by a little over a week .

Honestly though, I'm going back and for between hoping they do a soft opening or hoping they don't and maybe we'll experience one last calm before the storm. Probably not with ROL opening but what can ya do?

Speaking of ROL:
IMG_0492.jpg

I can't book fast passes until another month and I would honestly prefer not to use one on this so I'm glad they made a dining package available! Neither restaurants were on my original list of ADR picks but the characters are so darn cute in their safari gear so Tusker House it is!

Also, it makes me so sad that Wishes is ending the week before our trip :arghh::cry:. Wishes is my FAVORITE - I listen to the soundtrack and watch videos I've recorded all the time.

BUT, I'm going to keep an open mind and I'm sure I will end up loving 'Happily Ever After' too ;).

Now time to go redo everything :hilarious:.

Pixie dust definitely came your way. How exciting! We arrive the day you leave. Cannot wait to read more of your plans. Sounds great so far!

It certainly did - we are so thankful!

We almost decided on that week to have Memorial Day as an extra day off to recover lol but we couldn't make it work with our plans. Will you be there to see the opening of Pandora?

We've done quite a few adjustments to our plans with all the anouncements - updates will be posted soon :).

If I can get fast passes for the river ride we will try. It is an EMH day so that gives us an extra hour of park time before the drive home. Already sad about that.
If not I do have a breakfast and dinner booked on the 21st so will pray for a soft opening.

I am hoping for a soft opening more and more! I hope you're able to experience it as well .

Just thinking about our last day plans makes me so sad too so I just stay in a state of denial until we have to leave .

Okayyy, so we have made quite a few changes over the last week - mostly good changes, but one bummer.

I really wanted to have a non-park day in the middle of our trip to resort hop and do Disney Springs. I always feel slightly guilty going to Disney Springs on days we have park tickets, like i'm missing something going on at the parks by going elsewhere (I have problems) and for the same reason have never done much resort hopping/exploring. So to remedy that, I thought it might be nice to add an extra day to our trip, not buy an extra park ticket, and have that day as a no parks//rest//explore day.

J was fine with adding the extra day which honestly shocked me. I thought I was going to have to do some real persuading but he agreed right away :). YAY!!! We have another Disney day!!!

Now to the bummer - WL didn't have availability for that extra day in a standard room which meant we would have to add our last day in an upgraded room type and switch rooms. Paying an extra $100 from the standard room rate and having to switch rooms again was really not appealing to me. If we weren't already switching resorts earlier in the trip I might feel different but I was just not on board. Alas, it looks like our time at WL was not meant to be.

After some searching, Coronado Springs had a crazy good rate for the dates we needed. At around $160/night, it was only $30 more than POP! No, it's not a deluxe but the money we saved from switching allowed us an extra day in Disney plus funds to allocate for a few more table service meals for less than what we were originally looking at with WL. These are the things I tell myself to get over not staying at a deluxe.;)

So our dates our now Saturday, May 13th - Saturday, May 20th. Seven full nights in the World - our longest trip yet!!! Needless to say i'm excited. And OF COURSE this has led to me rethinking and adjusting all our plans so in my next post, i'll give the updated details.

Sounds awesome!! You know, the extra time is worth the resort switch, most definitely. We used to stay deluxe and realized we could visit more often if we downgraded to moderates. There are 6 of us so the cost had become more expensive as more kids showed up in our lives.;) We have been known to go more than twice a year because of that, but not as much as @Tuvalu.:)

Hi WDWDarling
Glad to hear the trip details are coming together
I agree with the idea of minimizing the number of hotel/room moves in a trip
I think it takes away from your relax/chill/park time.
Now if you were going for 2 weeks or more OR going to Uni I can understand room moves

We have stayed at Coronado twice and really enjoyed it.

The day at Disney Springs does not have to be a non park day.
Go to DS for shopping and lunch.
You can still go to the parks for dinner and nighttime show or even just the nighttime show
During our Christmas trip we did the majority of our FPs at night.

Yes, I will absolutely stay at a moderate if it means one more Disney day! We don't have kids yet, so I can only imagine the cost but two trips a year is not too shabby :). It's my goal to be like mrs. @Tuvalu when I grow up but for now i'll just be thankful she lets us live vicariously through her reports! :cat:

They're coming together slowly but surely! ;) Yes, I agree - I really didn't want the stress of trying to move more than once - DH would not be a happy camper lol.

Yay! I'm glad you liked it :). It looks like a really pretty resort and I'm kind of impressed with the different dining options they have.

Very true but I also want to explore the monorail resorts some, particularly the GF, and I have a feeling DH will be in need of a non-park day to decompress since he doesn't love the parks as much as I do. Since we have to check out of the Swan on Wednesday and it's in the middle of our trip, I thought that would be a good day to explore the resorts in the late morning, check-in to Coronado and chill (maybe even go crazy and play a round of mini-golf lol), and then hit Disney Springs at night.

I do love the parks at night so if we did DS on a park day it would definitely be for lunch.

I hope to visit Disney at Christmas one day :inlove:! Couldn't wait that long this year :p.
