when you book a trip to disney they have plans to make your trip a little more all inclusive, the silver plan lets you chosse 2 items per day per person off a list, i dont have the list though. the gold plan lets you get 3 meals a day per person. its all on disney's site

Read these over carefully. We have friends who purchased the Platinum plan, but never used over half of the stuff available. We are going to skip this addition (more $$). We know we won't use most of it.

We used last years equivelent of the Silver plan (can't remember what it was called then), but it gave us 2 wishes per night per person. We used most of them on food, but also on tours and gifts.

If you are smart about them and choose wisly, they can save you money. For instance, using them on tours is a really good way to get a bang for your buck. Also, eating at the more expensive resturants, that only cost 1 wish instead of 2.

I kept tabs on them, and would have been spending about $70-$80 each perosn on food every day that the wishes were paying for, but we picking some of the more expensive dinners at places like Chefs de France, or doing Boma for breakfast almost every morning.

With the addition of the tours (at around $50-$60 per person), plus Disney messed up twice and did not deduct enough points at two of the resturaunts we ate at, thus we had extra points!

In all, for us, it worked out good. But if you used them for say a breakfast at $15-$20 and a lunch at $15-$20, at $30-$40 a day, you'd just be giving your money to the mouse.

The key is using them at expensive restuarnts AND using the other benifits other than food like tours, spas, and other recreation. Thant's where the savings are really at. If you use them exclusivly for food, you may be better off not getting the Silver, and just using the good old cash route.

Have fun!

Yes, we are going Silver this time and believe we will save quite a bit, especially now that we have the special rates and the Disney Club Discount on top of the plan savings initially.

How exactly does the point system work? Do you have a special card or something which they mark off at a restaurant/event or when you receive a gift? How do you/they know how many points you have left.

For us, it was our room/ultimate pass card. We just handed them the card, and they came back with a recipt that we signed and it stated how many wishes we had left to spend.

Our resort card opened our room, let us on the elevator for the concierge lounge, it was out ultimate park hopper, could draw off my Discover card, and was used for the wishes program as well. An "all in one" thing. :D

That's both great and very scary at the same time, but I guess we will be like that this trip also. No matter what, you better not lose that card then, huh?

From what we were told, the card can only charge up to $500 on the CC, and only at Disney of cource. So if you lose it, or it's stolden, just report it right away. They will issue you a new one.

It must have been something newer added to the resorts. When we went though the gates at all the parks, we always got comments from the CM about the cards. Now it was for concierge as well, which a few CM said they had seen a few of them and they were all concierge guests. And from what I've read here, they are becoming the normal pass card now.

It was nice to have a plastic credit card type card for our passes. And I wouldn't worry about losing it any more than losing one of my regular credit cards.

Have fun on you next trip!

thats what i was hoping for, i used something liek that years ago but it was only one item off a list for the whole trip, i remember using it for breakfast at rainforest cafe, the breakfast for 2 came to $50 so we made out. they actually made us order more food than we could eat so we would getting the most out of the points. im looking forward to using you strategy though.

At todays cost it's $68 a night per person for 2 points. So that's $34 a point. And if you think you will spend more than that per day on food, then it's worth it.

If you can get a discount on top of that, even better. :D

I think the price per point (and Pam from Kingdom Konsultant can correct me if you know the number) was less last year (and the years before). So you should work out the costs before to see if it's worth buying into the plan. I figure "normal" dinners are around $35-$45 a person, and a good breakfast or lunch is around $20. So $65 a day would almost break even. Throw in a tour or two (at 1 point for a $50-$60 tour), and you can break even or make out a bit.

Nothing shocking about not being a hugh savings, I'm sure Disney's bean counters worked out the numbers over and over before they announced them. :fork:

One thing that will deffinatly make it "not so good" is children. Even though they drop the price to $55 per night, most kids are not eating $55 worth of food every day.

And the really expensive places cost 2 points, thus you better be eating a $68 dinner by yourself or you're just waisting you money. Now at a place like Narcossess, it wouldn't take much, but Jiko or Artists point, while expensive, probebly wont come to $68 a plate for most people. And remember, alcohol is NOT included as part of the point system.

My recommendation is once you've planned where you're going to eat (we make our PS months in advance), I look at the menues, work out the costs, figure out where I'm spending all my points, then see what it would have cost me cash.

On our next trip, we are staying for seven nights. I figured $20 for breakfast 6 out of 7 days, $45 for dinner, and 1 tour at $50. So for Silver Plan it will cost $476, and paying cash would cost $485. So we could save $9 on the plan,.

Not really a big deal, but the plan does make it a bit worry free. You don't really care about the prices when ordering food, which is one more way to make your vacation even more pleasant.

It all comes down to planning for it. You can also say that there is a cost/value attached to using the wishes, thus even if it costs more than cash, it was still valuable. Just know that the plans usally don't give huge savings over cash, it's more of an worry free package than a cost saver overall.

Have fun!

Don't forget, if you use Codes or Disney Club, then the $68 price per day is really less. I think ours is like $56 a day after calculating discounts in. So that's roughly $28 per point. You can easily eat that. Also Dinner Shows are included as an option.

Yep, that's what clinched it for us last year. The code I used also gave a discount to the package, and by bringing down that dollar amount, even a couple dollars per wish, made all the difference.

Plus Disney messing up and giving us extra wishes. :D

We were spending points like crasy on our last two days cos' I hadn't accounted for them. :hammer:

Choose wisely:

The packages are not bad, if you follow the advice of the people in this group:
1. Use at high priced places, tours, etc.
2. Use them, lots of people dont use them all

I went on a 2nd Honeymoon and money was not an issue, I could have done the packages if I wanted. However, I choose to go at it on my own. The reasons:

1. I wanted to keep flexibility
2. We knew we wouldn't eat fancy all the time
3. When at WDW, I rather be in the parks then the restaurants

The one reason I wlmost went for the package was the begin able to use them for tours. But went on my own, if I wanted to do the tour, I'd pay for it. If not, then I didn't feel pressured to do something just so I could use points.

Don't know if that helped at all or not, just my 2 cents.

Good advice.

Also remember, not all the tours are available on the Silver package. And if you have the Disney Club card, you can get discounts off some of the tours as well, some at 15%. Thus you can bring a cheaper tour down to the price of a single wish cost, thus your not saving anything again, if you have the DC card.

This is what we did as well last year. We could only use our points on one of the tours, two of them I got the DC discounts on, the fourth we had to pay full price, no discounts available.

We used points at the following places to eat:

Boma, Rose and Crown*, Chefs de France, Liberty Tree Tavern, Narcossess*, O'hannas, Castle Dinner. The * is where Disney messed up. Rose and Crown should have cost 2, but we were charges 1, and Narcossess should have been 4, but we were charged 2. We also used Boma more than once (love the breakfast :slurp: ).

We also bought a few of the gifts.

That #2 is the best one. Don't forget to use them all or your just letting Disney reach into you piggy bank for there own use. If you still have some points left at the end of your trip, stop at a gift shop on the way out. Pick up one of the gifts. With those three extra points, we got a cell painting, the clock, and I think we got the picture frame. Not that all these items cost $38 each, but it's better than just giving away your money. :)
