Donald's Philharmagic?

Well, I got the new Disney Magazine today, and it has a small article on philharmagic. It says that they wanted to create a 3d show that wasn't as scary as honey or bug. So this will definitely be tamer than those two. It also showed two pictures of the movie, both of Donald, one, of him conducting the orchestra, and the other, of him at Lumiere's table. The storyline is that Donald tries to conduct Mickey's orchestra and it gets pretty out of hand. He ends up traveling through several popular Disney movies including Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, and more. The pictures are quite impressive, showing that Disney can really do some wonderful cgi work. This is clearly a show that is going to give Donald a PR boost...

Hey! I didn't my Disney Magazine yet!

That sounds pretty cool. It should make my sister happy since she's obsessed with Donald and I'm obsessed with Mickey.

I cannot wait until this attraction opens...It is going to be so cool. kind of like an indoor Fantasmic. (without all the cool fireworks and water effects)

Donald's? As far as I know (and this was confirmed with someone I spoke to yesterday) it is still called Mickey's Philharmagic...

The attraction was stated to open in the fall of next year. It also made it sound like Donald will be the star of the attraction. I can't wait for the show to open!

o.k. here it goes...

~Disney Magizine: Winter 2001-2002~

"From wayward mice and hissing snakes to acid-firing termites and poison quill-throwing tarantulas, Walt Disney World's recent three-dimensional film attractions have been groundbreaking and entertaining but maybe a little intense for younger guests. So when Imagineers set out to replace Legend of the Lion King at the Magic Kingdom, they were thinking kinder and gentler 3-D.
The result is Mickey's PhilharMagic, a new 10-minute special effects-laden film starring classic Disney characters. (Who could be kinder and gentler?) When the animated attraction debutes next fall, it will star Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, and other favorites in glorious, in-your-face, computer-generated three dimensions.
In the film, Donald starts out thinking he can conduct the PhilharMagic Orchestra (above) and ends up darting in and out of scenes from various Disney animated features.
The peripatetic duck goes under the sea with Ariel, soars through new worlds with Jasmine and Aladdin, just wants to be king alongside Simba, and joins the 'Be Our Guest' scene (right) from Beauty and the Beast.
The show unfolds on a 150-foot-wide canvas (at press time, it is the world's largest 3-D projection surface) and is full of in-theater sounds, smells, and other effects that put you in the middle of the action with the perpetually hot-tempered Donald. Which, come to think of it, might just be scarier than in the other Disney 3-D adventures."

Mickey's Philharmagic was originally set to open in Spring, 2003. However, for reasons I don't know, it's most recently been set to open in May, 2003. It keeps getting pushed back apparently. Not sure why, because it was already a theater for The Lion King, but apparently, there have been some minor delays & setbacks. It's in the area of Fantasyland that I work, so we're being kept updated on its progress. I'll keep y'all posted. Been kinda quiet around there lately though. :(

According to my supervisors & the news bulletins in Fantasyland, it's May, 2003.

As long as the attraction is available by August, 2003, there will be three very happy boys in my family ... make that four, with one being significantly older than the other three. :D
