Doing Atkins at Disney?

My wife and I are both on the Atkins diet (I've lost 30 pounds so far!) and we are heading to WDW in just a few weeks. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on low carb meals that we can get there for reasonable prices. I'm sure we'll be eating a lot more turkey legs than normal, since they're high in protein and low in carbs. But despite my claim that I "could live on those", I'm guessing I probably will want at least SOME variety.

The Atkins website actually has a link to another WDW fan page that supposedly has some low carb meal options listed (www.wdwig.com/rev_lowcarb.htm), but although it's a great site, I didn't really find the low carb suggestions all that helpful.

I appreciate any input any of you might have.

HI! I'm on a modified Atkins (slightly more carbs) due to diabetes and I was there in August. My only suggestion to you is know what it is you can eat. There are sooo many choices...just loved being able to eat steak again...great veggie meals, salads (esp with fried chicken in them. :slurp: )
Just ask your server if you can replace the potatoes, rice, pasta, etc. with extra veggies, coleslaw, etc. We ( my daughter & I ) had no problems.
Congratulations on the weight loss & have fun in WDW.
Bring back pics.

I was there on Atkins once, and every restaurant I went to was more than happy to give me just a steak smothered in cheese or hamburger, no bun, etc...

And this was before Atkins was popular, so I am sure you'll have no issues ordering low-carb. :)

BTW, congrats on the 30. I went from 241 to 180 myself, and my knees thank me every morning. ;)

Well, Merlin, I've done many, many searches for this, and come up pretty empty handed as far as websites go. However, I did get many results with the Unofficial guide listed as having some suggestions, so if you didn't intend on getting that book, I'll look at my mother in law's house, because I think she got one. :) And congrats to all our losers! (weight loss, of course, what did you think? :lookaroun) :sohappy: It's not easy to do, for sure.

Glad to know that my husband and I aren't the only crazy ones out there! We are actually packing the bathroom scales to make sure we don't gain this year. He's on Atkins, I'm the opposite. He's lost 38 pounds since July. I've lost 35. (Just had a second baby last year...still no excuse for gaining that much weight.) I do the pasta, salad and fresh fruit thing. So we are total opposites. You should see us trying to figure out whats for dinner!

For some tips from other people on where to eat and where's the most accomidating to your needs go to the Dining section at www.wdwig.com I think it's in Special Dietary Needs subcategory. Hope this helps!
