No Hatter it is a decoration shaped like a pickle green in color etc. You "hide" it in the branches of the tree and the first to find it Christmas morning has good luck all year. Next time you're in the World Showcase go to the gift shop in Germany they have an entire tree decorated with them but you only need one or buy a whole bunch and have an unusal Christmas tree.

A friend of mine's parents are both from Germany, different areas. They did not have pickles on their tree and neither of them had never heard of the tradition.

I'm thinking it can't be a very old tradition, lol...or a very widespread one.

Well thank heavens. I sincerely believed that the Christmas pickle was some holiday induced delirium that my mother made up and the rest of the family went along with in some sort of spirit of the holidays fugue. Yes Virginia, there is a tree pickle in our household.

Yup, we have a pickle in our tree, too. Had one at home when I was a kid, then when DD was born, bought one for our tree. As she's an only child, it was pretty much a given that she won the prize, but even now at 23 she still looks forward to finding the pickle on Christmas morning.

We set up our Christmas Trees yes we have two, one traditional, one all Disney decorations, yesterday. Each tree has a Christmas Pickle decoration purchased in the World Showcase from the gift shop in Germany. My questions are who else does this? Also, did you get your pickle at Disney World?
yes and no

Yeah, we have one - despite the fact it is not a German tradition (me being a good part German)

It is loads of fun, first tying to find a present that will be appropriate for whichever child finds it, then getting to referee on Christmas morning while the children beat each other to death and destroy the tree in an all out effort to find the oh so precious pickle. Come to think of it, I am suprised it is NOT a German tradition (or at least a Norwegian tradition)
