Does Your Christmas Tree have a Christmas Pickle?

We set up our Christmas Trees yes we have two, one traditional, one all Disney decorations, yesterday. Each tree has a Christmas Pickle decoration purchased in the World Showcase from the gift shop in Germany. My questions are who else does this? Also, did you get your pickle at Disney World?

The only German tradition we follow is the preparation and consumption of Gluhwein. Pickle is for cheese not house trees, especially mythical ones.

As I am of German decent and DH was stationed in Germany for 2 years with the Army, yes, we have a pickle for the tree! DS decorated the tree so I am not sure where he hid them yet, we have several.

In a shop in the Germany pavillion of world showcase, their is a tree with pickle ornaments. It is apparently a German tradition, I once had a conversation with a CM about it after asking her why their is a pickle on the tree

Theres a Scottish tradition that anyone named Sak should be given several free adult beverages as a gift at the end of each year.

Not saying its bad, just couldnt remember it from my years in Germany, infact Id forgotten the Dec 5th /6th thang, Im sure the Dutch do the same.

We do! We bought ours in WDW at the Germany pavilion in 2010. Had read about the tradition before our trip and thought it would be fun for when we have kids.

I think some people were weaned on a pickle. We do these "traditions" because they are fun and bring fond memories when we repeat them. If they were not fun we would not do them again. For example as a young soldier I was wounded December 24th in Vietnam, so I don't go out and shoot myself in the thigh every Christmas Eve. That said, traditions Vs commercialism is always a sore point at this time of year. End of sermon, that's my dear wife's business not mine.

I definitely plan on getting one this year! I think it's awesome! My grandmother was German, so I'm sure she knew about it. She was also Jehovah's Witness, so she didn't have a Christmas tree.

Yea we have a pickle on our tree. It was given to me before I got married by a friend of my moms. At first I just hung it like normal and then someone said, no you are supposed to hide it on the tree.

The occasions where she didnt would be rarer. Though shes just as deadly with a tin of hair moose and a prone airman.

Yep, we were stationed in Germany with the USAF and got the 'tradition' there. Maybe it was started by the US military? But our pickles are not from Epcot. Did not know about the pickle tree.
