Does Universal have the best Halloween Horror compared to anywhere else?

No, I haven't been to it yet. Well, in October of 2009 we were in Orlando but my wife is terrified of that stuff and we didn't buy the tickets for later in the night for the Halloween Haunt.

But I've seen the videos, and it looks amazing. It looks like re-enactments of classic horror movies like Halloween.

I've been to a few different ones that theme parks have to offer, but does anyone do this better and scarier than Universal?

Scariest? Probably not. HHN has become a very regulated event. They put a lot of restrictions on what the actors can do, for guests' safety and their own. Still, it's a fun atmosphere and you aren't likely to find better production values at other park's Halloween events, although some houses are better than others in that respect.

There are plenty of places that go much, much scarier, but they are not on the same scale as HHN. If you are strictly talking theme parks, I would put them at near the top of the heap.

Some people here in SoCal believe Knott's Scary Farm is better than Horror Nights, in terms of theme parks. My co-worker says she's bored with Horror Nights because it's the same thing every year. I really don't know.

In terms of other events, I find the thought of a hayride through Griffith Park at night scarier than Horror Nights.

I haven't been to enough of them to know. The only other theme park thing I've done is MNSSHP, which is great, but so very different.

It is far and away better than any of the typical haunted house stuff I went to back home, when I was younger.

I have only been able to visit the Hollywood HHN once and it is miles better than the theme park haunts I've been to at my local Six Flags and Dorney Park.

In terms of haunted attractions overall I would put Eastern Penitentiary ahead of it just for the location and the interactivity was a lot more fun. In terms of scariness I would put the "go in alone and get manhandled" haunted house in NYC ahead of it too, but I didn't enjoy the scares at all.

I used to think so. Howl-O-Scream in Busch Gardens Tampa this year exceeded HHN in terms of show quality and scare factor.

Same with the Howl-O-Scream in Williamsburg. I was quiet impressed.
We did Halloween Horror Nights in early September. Spent nearly $350 on two passes and two express passes. The express passes didn't work. We still waited at least 45 minutes per house. Once we got in, we were rushed through like cattle going to the slaughter. If you slowed down even for a second, a monitor would scream at you to keep moving. There was some great theming within the various houses but it was more annoying than enjoyable. Plus, the sweaty 90 degree heat did not help.

BUT

This past weekend, we went to Hallowscream at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. OMG. It was totally amazing.

The theming of each land topped everything that HHN did, the houses were incredible, there was no wait at ALL with express pass, it was half the price of HHN, and it felt like October instead of a heat wave.

This was 100% better than the mess we dealt with at HHN and I can't wait to go back next year.

This year has stepped up the game too. Every person I have heard from as raved about it. I am with you. I am ready to go again next year.

Yep, we were there for three hours and I wish we had longer (we got stuck in a hellish traffic jam). Next year I want to go for at least a couple of nights.

Universal felt like plugs for a bunch of movies. Hallowscream felt like Halloween.

I loved the hundreds of jack-o-lanterns and ghosts in the trees, the music, the fog, the pumpkin beer. It was just perfect.

The themes within the lands was incredible. France was burning and it looked like it was really burning! Filled with demons. Germany was overrun with vampires. England was Ripper Alley and filled with insane looking killer types. It was sooooo great. And that Dead Line house was one of the best houses I've ever been in.

If you plan on coming down for a few days to do Howl o-scream next year. Kings Dominion which is about an hour away is great if your a Roller-Coaster Junkie and has a fairly decent Halloween event (I have a lot of friends who work the event) while their sets are not the best their make up is good. While not as great as Howl o'scream but if your in the area might as well hit up both.

I thoroughly enjoyed Halloween Horror Nights this year. However, I really want Universal to go back to using scare zones. I think this would improve the event tinfold, as scare zones can be just as great houses.

Also, I would like to see a decrease in the amount of alcohol and drink/snack stands. Do we need one every 10 feet?

I did not encounter the problems about being ushered along. However, when I get scared, I tend to run forward and not slow down, haha.

American Werewolf in London was a great house. I really enjoyed the beginning to this house, as it set the vibe perfectly. Resident Evil was okay, and Cabin in the Woods was pretty well done. I throughly enjoyed Cabin in the Woods.

My friends had vodka thrown on them.

I loved the truck that drove around and dumped off walkers... Walkers that would sprint at you. It made me fall to the ground and then start running. What a great scare.

I was getting kind of bored with the walkers. I only saw the chainsaw gang once, and that was in Springfield. They got me good... Really good actually. As they were walking in formation, one sprinted straight at me and chased me for a good while.

Strange, we went on September 27th and the express pass folks were whizzing through the lines. Matter of fact, the longest we waited was probably 30 minutes. We never had anyone yelling at us or rushing us.
