Does anyone else do this...

So out next visit is in November - a good while off. To motive myself to save $ for our adventure I have put up some beautiful wall paper of POR on my desktop at work. Someone at work walks by my door says hello and "What is that - that is beautiful." I reply "Oh, that is where I am going in November." She says "Well where is that?" I say "It's at Disney." She continues to say that it is beautiful and and stuff and another person said - very joking I might add, "I couldn't do that I think it is a form of slow torture." My question is does anyone else do this - for motivation? What other things to people do to motivate the saving efforts?

I am sooo stealing this idea...Never thought of wallpaper. And I'm sitting all day at work staring at my computer dreaming of Disney.

I listen to Disney music...it's on my Mp3 player..it's in my car cd player...I even have it on my ringtone. As i'm typing this i'm beginning to think I have a problem.

But to answer your question, when i'm shopping for groceries or anything else i ask myself do i really want that 10 gallon tub of Ice Cream, do I really need these shoes or do I want to go to Disney?

Thanks - many people don't understand why I would bother saving - giving other things up- to go to Disney "again - you've already been there."

Oh yes! Background on iPad and phone. We make a collage of Disney characters and wrap it around our change/bank thing! :D

This is last years

Britt - that is great - I will steal that idea for the kids "extra" savings - the change from there small trips is saved for additional spending money. (We give them $100 each for doing their weekly chores - but need to save change ect. if they want more.)

On my Windows desktop, I have about 50 (and growing) various WDW desktop wallpapers (candid high def shots that I get from another site) that I have constantly rotating on my computer screen every 10-20 seconds. I also have a growing number of favorite WDW HD videos in YouTube I enjoy going through, and a growing number of WDW audio files (my latest is the entire Tomorrowland Area Loop) to listen to as much as I like.

It would only be torture if you were NOT going. We've got Disney EVERYWHERE around the house and workplace to motivate us to save, and dream of future trips. We always have a "To do next time" list posted that we constantly add to. Might be a restaurant, a show, a tour, a souvenir to buy, but we know we wont be able to do it or get it if we dont save for it.

Well since everything electronic I own has something regarding Disney on it (Ipad, phone Itouch) plus having a Pluto talking phone (I know, right?!?!?! LOL) It reminds me to throw all of my change into a huge jar that sits besides my bed. I use that for a Epcot gift card we load up before going into WS. (We usually visit Disney during F&W and also going in November this year) Last trip, we put $500 on the card, had a few hundred left, used that to pay out of pocket at Le Cellier. It may seem trivial, but to us, it was like eating and drinking free around WS as well as a wonderful *free* dinner at Le Cellier!!

I had to read this post twice - at first I thought you were saying that they get $100 per week allowance!!!!

We do it also! Wallpapers on computers, phones, even our XBOX 360 has a Disney Villains theme. Our family recently started doing Disney dinner night. It is a blast. We also divide how much the next trip will cost by how many days left so we know how much to save each week. Sometimes we are more strict with saving for our trip than our bills! We even keep a piggy bank for change and dollars. It usually gets up to a few hundred dollars by each trip.

That would be insane. They have to do the chores from March (when we booked) to November when we go. They get $100 free and clear to spend as they wish - if they want more they can save other $ that they get - loose teeth, birthday cash ect. Usually we don't give them $ for chores - its part of being a person in the family to do your share - but they added extra Mom's helper items when we booked to earn spending $. I know others do things differently but this works for us and I get someone to help with the dishes everyday.

I have a vacation savings account and I have a certain amount automatically deducted from my paycheck that goes into it. Makes it pretty easy to save doing it that way. And, I'm excited to say, I will be making my final payment in about 2 weeks!
I might look into this - great idea.
