Good Morning Disneyittes, What is the difference between a cupcake and a muffin? Reason I ask concerns the Butterfinger one from Starring Rolls Cafe.Are they just the same article.:) A muffin over here is completely different from a cupcake.

Cupcakes have frosting!

Now after a bit a reseach on this matter many people state this theory,"If you throw a cupcake against the wall it will make the sound of "Poof". If you to the same with a muffin, it will make the sound "Thud".

I feel this is a theory you should test!:p

I like your analogy.

To get a little more technical:

'A basic formula for muffins is 2 cups flour, 2-4 tablespoons sugar, 2½ teaspoons baking powder, ½ teaspoon salt, 1 egg, ¼ cup oil, shortening or butter and 1 cup milk. When the fat, sugar and egg ratio in a recipe reaches double or more than this, you have reached the cake level.

In general:

Cupcakes = sweet
Muffins = savoury

(I'm sure there are some that don't fit that criteria. That's why I generalized. ;))

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Apparently, cupcakes are made with cake batter, and muffins are made with quickbread batter.
Cupcakes are lighter and airier (hence the pouf) and muffins are denser (hence the thud).
