Do meet and greet type characters really need to know how to dance?

I know that dancing is part of the audition, but for characters that walk around and sign autographs, do the judge people kinda put aside the dancing part and not make it as crucial? just wondering!

Well when I auditioned they had a dance audition to see where to place you. For example, if you were a good dancer you were sent to MK for parades, but if you didn't dance at all then you were sent to Epcot to do sets in World Showcase. You had an animation audition and a dance audition, so if you bombed the dance but had a good animation audition it wasn't the end of the world. I'm pretty sure they still audition the same way. Now with global casting I'm not quite sure how they place people.

They do not do that the same way it's "Pass or Fail" or 'Character Pool'. But yes, it is Global now, meaning you work at all the parks.

Now leading to the real question..for Meet N Greet characters. There basically just checking to see if you have good animation skills. They don't want a character just standing still all the time. Your told to always keep moving.

By the way 'DisneyPan' did you pass the audition?

Yes, there is a character pool now so you basically go anywhere they put you. It really does not matter if you can dance but it is a plus, you can get trained to do more and such, like parades. If you do really awesome in your dance when you audition then they consider you in parades and such. But dancing is not a nessasary, but like i said its a plus.

But basically in the audition..there trying to see if you can animate or not, while dancing. Smiling is essential to passing the audition.

"Man I need a job in characters"

Judges judge the whole audition the same, the audition is for meet and greet characters, and sometimes it's not just "Signing autographs and taking pictures" when you're a character. There are roles (For example, Chef Mickey's Breakfast and Dinner) where you need to dance around the resturaunt, and you have to be big and animated with your dances. The audition is a mix of animation and dancing. Animation means bringing to life, and that's what's most important. They tell us at the beginning of the audition, "We're not looking for dancers, we're looking for characters." There was about 40 people at my audition, and they take all of us into a room, teach us the dance, and then by groups of 5 take us into the room again, this time with judges and we perform the dance and also animate (My animation was "Pretend you're at a fiesta") and you dance 3 times and animate 2 times (inbetween the dance sets). Pretty much, whatever you think is BIG you need to go 10x bigger than that. I was jumping up and down, all around with my animating, just be big and use BIG movements. But, the most important thing is to smile!!!! Nothing says "I really wanna do this" like a big smile! As for the pool, I was originally put into the pool, but got called out. As for how long you are in the pool, that is undecided.

As for Parades, you have to go to a seperate "Color Coding" where you go to another audition, and pretty much do the same stuff you did at your original audition. Then, they give you a specific color (I think there's 4) and depending on your color, that will specify what you can get trained for. Until you go to color coding, you will not be trained for any shows or parades.

Well when you audition they give you a color code as well, you just dont know it. I know a couple of people after they were hired were getting trained for parades and such. You can keep going to color codes to build your codes up, as well as workshops they have to help you out.

The face audition is one where you can only go once a year.

Yes, we've had several cms get trained in FoLK or MJJP after only being on the schedule five days or so.

Wow. I guess there aren't as many people who want to do this job anymore. When I auditioned (ten years ago) There were several thousand people at my audition. It took ten hours to make it all the way through. I'll never forget...I was so sick and would have loved for there to have only been 40 people there. :hammer:

Kids, you mean teenagers right? Do you mean they leave to go back to school, or leave the company?

Well, that was back before CP was allowed to audition for entertainment. That was just a cattle call of people wanting to be hired in.

Sir Hiss527 - Yes, I passed the audition. I started working in May of '99. I worked at MK. Now, I'm seasonal and go down every couple months.

Yeah the audition only had like 40 people, but we were still there for a couple hours or so just waiting for the results, that's the worst part lol
