This is my first time going. I will be buying tickets to the Magic Kingdom but want to visit Downtown disney at another day. So do I need to a pay an admission ticket to get into Downtown Disney?

Also, what is the difference between the marketplace, west side, pleasure island? Is it all interconnected? Or do I need to take a bus/shuttle to get to the different parts?

Please help!

None. There are special ticket events and shows. DD is a mess right now due to the major constructions for a brand new "disney springs". It is walkable though and enjoyable

DownTown Disney is a shopping, eating and entertainment complex set in the South East area of Disney - the closest theme park is EPCOT. It is free to enter to everyone, you don't require any park admission, or to even be a Disney Guest.
It is "split" into the West Side, Pleasure Island and Market Place areas and you can reach any from the Disney Bus drop off points or the large parking area on foot.
There's no real difference in any of the areas - most of the restaurants are in the central (pleasure island) area, although such places as Rain Forest Cafe are over in Market Place, the shops are mainly in Market Place although you will find many elsewhere. Finally, Cirque du Soliel and the cinema complex are to be found on the West Side.

DTD is undergoing a huge refurb at the moment so some of the place listed on the maps may have closed, moved or been replaced by the time you visit
